Leaking Aygo

Well after two months of my Aygo being sat at the Dealers Listers in Lincoln I finally get my car back tomorrow(hopefully!)

After much arguing with the dealer and Toyota GB about the length of time it was taking to manufacture a door seal they apparently had some guys flown over from Japan???? and some other people to come fit a test part to my car last week, with a bit of luck this one wont leak. They initially said there wasn't any damage to the carpets or underlay and said they wouldn't replace it despite it being saturated but have now relented and have changed both.

The whole experience has been awful and I really hope I'm not going to have any more problems with the car, i'll be keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow when I go and pick it up.

:(

Keep us posted on this. It is always disturbing when these companies get so big that they think the least important thing is their customers.

I have had an Aygo for the last year or so now. I noticed water in the spare wheel well, but used to account for it as entering during a wash. However, when it became clear that this was not the case I tried to find the source of the leak. In my case this was as follows:

Water flows around the rear glass seal in the small channel formed between the seal and the rest of the body. This should then overflow and spill out with no harm done. However inspection of the rear lights shows a small gap between the light and the body, and water can be seen to flow into this gap. On trying to pour water into this gap, I could see that water enters the boot from under the carpetting on the left hand side. On removing the carpetting and piece of plastic around the rear left seatbelt (this is described in the owner's manual as the procedure to change the rear lightbulbs), one can see much more clearly what is going on. The light is fixed to the body with only one screw and a clip, containing also the electrical connection. This electrical connection is surrounded by a foam seal, which when the light is tightened to the body should seal any water from entering. However, this is not he case and water can be seen to seep in through this seal and into the car.

How does it get to the rear footwell one may ask? Well, following the water from the light, one can see that it flows along the boot floor, and the little river then splits into two: one flows down into the spare wheel well, while the rest continues flowing towards the rear seats and flows down into the footwell through the small gap between the seats and the wheel arch.

My solution was to fix some foam tape to the top of the light housing, such that when fixed, it prevented water from coming into the connection seal. When tested it worked, but lately I have seen that water has been coming in once again. I don't know if it is due to a new leak or whether my patch has failed. Anyway, i phoned the local Toyota dealer (in Malta) and he replied that he knows of the problem as they have had another two cases and know how to fix it. So it's off to the garage on Thursday. I'll let you known how this ends up.

This has been my personal experience, so I don't know if all Aygos are having the same problem as this seems simple enough to find, and can't understand why Toyota UK can't seem to find a simple leak if it is in the same location as this. On the whole very please with my Aygo and my dealer as well.

  • 8 months later...

There's me thinking I was alone with the problem of the leaking aygo.

I have a Aygo sport which I bought just over a year ago. A couple of months later we had rain and I noticed the drivers side footwell full of water. My car spent just over 2 months at Toyota Listers at Lincoln and the apparently manufactured a new door seal?!? :( and reassured me I wouldn't have the same prob again........wrong!

Early November, rain again, and the footwell has filled up with water. My car has been with the dealer since early November and I've been told Toyota are manufacturing a new door seal which will be shipped early Feb from Japan to the Europe factory, who knows when it will reach the UK :angry:

My car has probably done more milage around Listers car park than on the road. I am so fed up I really wish I had never bought it. :ffs: :crybaby:

V Sorry to hear that. I thought they'd sorted that problem. Surely they must offer you compensation - free servicing or something(?) I suppose a few hundred refund is too much to ask - even though that may well not be enough to make you glad that you bought the car.

My 'Sport' is booked in for Tues, dreaded bootlatch and water in passenger footwell! Only 10 months old...I can have a courtesy car but have to pay £10 to utilise their insurance cover, if I use my own insurance and have an accident they will levy a £1000 (yes £1000) excess! Anybody come across this scam before?

ive just had excatly the same problem with my aygo. took it to my toyota dealer and they removed the interior plus the carpets dried it out cleaned the inside washed and dried the carpet, as they discovered that the nearside door seal was not sealing the door properly. all this was done under warranty so anyone with the same complaint should take their cars in and get it replaced as it looks like there is a problem with that part of the car. its all fixed now and is ok.

fingers crossed anyway!

Seeing your location you only have a few choices of dealer locally either Cornwall or Plymouth. If you are using Plymouth double check what you have been told RE insurance on the courtesy car as I have used them & was offered three choices of insuring the courtesy car.

1) Take courtesy car on their insurance but be subject to thier excess of £1000

2) Pay £10.00 as a waiver on the £1000 ( I chose this )

3) Insure courtesy car on your own policy subject to your insurance excesses.

I chose the £10 as my excess was £250.00 so I decided why take a risk of an minimum of £250 possibly £1000 if

did happen to have a mishap whilst driving a courtesy car.

When I questioned the £1000 excess receptionist pointed out that they insure a minimum 10 cars for anyone between 25 & 70 years of age regardless of how many points on the customers liscence so long as liscence is valid.

When put that way the excess makes sense. So not really a scam

Marsh Toyota Plymouth... Had many courtesy cars overs many years and never used my own policy to cover it. I see what you say in the circumstances, but is this normal procedure now?

Of the occasions I've used them this has always been the policy however I have also used their collection & delivery service from both home & work & in the run up to xmas they dropped me into Plymouth & collected me when I was ready. All IMHO really usefull & free except for the insurnace waiver. With my previous cars a corsa & Ka getting any sort of car was near on impossible unless cars were off the road for more than a week the excesses where both over £850 with no option to pay a waiver. Its more than likley that you have been subject to excesse like these but they where just hidden away in the small print & not discussed unless questionned I fell foul of this at a vauxhall dealer in Glasgow before I moved south.

Add me to the list-our main car is a RAV but also have a 56 Black. I could smell the damp but put it down to water coming in from the rear nearside window-the mother in law had left it open one night. Then I noticed the white patches in the rear doorwell-putting my hand on it, I could feel the wetness. As it was summer 07, leaving the door open on a warm day solved the problem and the smell.

But about a week ago, the wife started to complain about the smell again-you guessed it, rear footwell wet and the white patches appearing. The RAV is going in for a service so I'll see what the dealers have got to say about it. I'm going to mention this forum and see what reaction I get ;)

Has anybody else tried the investigation on the rear lights that the poster above mentioned-or is it the rear door seal?

cheers

If you think its a scam, phone your own insurance company up and get yours swapped to their car for the day, likely charge?........about £25

Sadly everything in life should be free, but a fleet of cars waiting for you to drive, fully taxed and insured, full of fuel is not one of them. A £1000 excess is about the norm on a motor trader policy. You have to be insured, and you might think that it is recoverable under warranty, it isnt.

I'm not trying to justify why dealers charge for it, you don't know the circumstances of their traders policy, taking their car out on your standard insurance will mean you have to pay their excess in the event of a claim, as you are only insured 3rd party when driving somebody elses car, assuming you are insured fully comp. By informing your insurance company that you want to drive their car fully comp, then you will have to pay

Sorry to hijack the thread..........moaning over :D:

Thanks for that! As I recall, years ago a 'courtesy car' was exactly what it said on the tin!! My 10 month old car is unservicable and not of merchantable quality...Toyotas responsibility not mine. That issue aside, I'll update tomorrow re the leak and the boot latch. Lets hope they sort it, and no I wont be using their non-courtesy car I'll be using my Corolla...

Door seal & Bootlatch repaced, just hope they are sorted now. Excellent service, change of plans meant I did take courtesy car, £10 waiver fee I agreed to pay was subsequently 'ignored', I did only have the car for just over 2 hours and only did 15 miles! Well done Marsh Toyota.

Good news, glad your sorted, well done Mrsh indeed

There are modified door seals and a modified fitting instruction for Aygo models. The new seals are in short supply at this moment in time, but should improve shortly

Do you know whether these door seals have been fitted to recent production runs, and if so, from what date.

Cheers...

Spoke to my dealer and he said that they check for kinks on the seals as part of the PDI now they have had two in for seals.

But havent heard of the lights being a problem.

Unfortunately, I was checking Hugo's tyres at the weekend and was getting the compressor out of the boot. Soaking wet through in there :(

I haven't checked whether it's the boot lid, the rear-headlight problem- to be frank I'm not gonna root round the back of my car with a bottle of water, let the dealer's do that.

Will be booking it in ASAP- will I be entitled to a courtesy car for this?

:ffs: leaking Aygo from extremely unhappy daff480 :angry::angry:

Hi, I have a 06 Aygo plus, which I have had for about 9 months now from New. But lately I have had a problem with it leaking water in. It started with a bad smell at first and the windscreen getting frosty on the inside, as well as out, then I noticed that the rear passenger footwell was absolutely soaking wet, and this was the source of the bad smell. I rang Toyota and it was booked in to see a specialist today, but just had a call saying they could find no leaks what-so-ever, and asked if I had left any windows open (must think I am that daft), which I said no. So now they want to keep it over night, so RRG mechanics, can have a look at it. Has anyone else had this problem with there Aygo?
