Hi guys n Girls

hoping you can help out a new Yaris owner

My Girl friend has just passed her driving test and we've brought a 2nd hand 2000 Yaris ( 1L GS in white, 3 door ) which is just what she wanted :)

she's been using the car for a few weeks now and decided to get a spare key cut ( we only had 1 key when we got the car )

went into local lock smith/key cutting place and ordered a key

she's had the key cut and now we need to code it

I understand that this can be done through the car it's self

1st question: how can we tell if we've got the original master key ???

the key we have is just a plain black key with Toyota logo on both sides, no buttons on it or anything

when she picked the key up the guy tried to programme the key but had no luck

I've searched the forum and read numerous threads and links provided for how to programme the key.

we've sat in the car, with the laptop trying a few different suggestions posted up but we still have no luck, which makes me ask the 1st question

2nd question: has any body on here actually succeeded in programing the own key ???

if so how or what method did you use ?? do you have a link

many thanks

Robin

Is the key you have bought just a standard/normal key or a toyota one fitted with imobiliser transponder?

If the car needs the proper toyota key you wont get a normal key to turn off the immob i dont think.

If the key can be programmed in its just a case of following a special sequence of opening the door/turning the ignition etc.

I have all of the coding sequences for immob/remote locking for all toyotas at work but im not back until tuesday.

Hi Mart

the 1 key that we got with the car is as I stated in my 1st post is just a black key with the Toyota logo on it , no buttons or anything

I wounder if this is the master key

the spare key that we had cut is not a genuine Toyota key, but we did have to order the key in as it required the transponder type

is there any chance you could pm me the correct operations for programming the key

greatly appreciated

Robin

Anyone know to program a fob, as toyota are telling me they need to get to the ECU to do so?

I've just bought a 1998 celica that only came with a single black key and fob.

Cheers,

Peter
