Well as a non smoker I'm going to say it is a good thing. I visit the family back in Scotland every month or so and since the smoking ban came into force it has been great. I have family that run a pub and takings have gone up since the ban, families coming in for food.

Coming home after a night out and not stinking of !Removed! smoke is also a massive bonus.

But,

The streets on a Sunday morning are now littered with !Removed! ends and the smell is disgusting!

Also, is it right to keep the cigerette machines in the pubs? Surely that is a bit of a contradiction?

And worstly, what about all the companies who make ashtrays?! What are they going to do now?!!

I've been smoking for 10 years now.

I can understand pubs that sell food/restaurants etc want to stop smoking & TBH i won't mind not smoking.

mehh - i'm probably going to give up anywhoo.

very good thing in my opinion.

Some resturants have smoking area's but thats stupidity at its worst as you cant control where the smoke/smell goes out of the confirned areas...

I say bring it on!!! Man... this means i will be able to go to my local snooker club and not come back home after a game smelling like an ashtray!!!!! :D

I can't wait for it to come into place, there's nothing worse than going to the pub to watch the football & being subjected to having to inhale none-stop toxic fumes. As a none-smoker I absolutely hate it, so much so that I very rarely go to the pub to watch the match, it ruins it for me.

I also hate it at the ground, I'm quite lucky in that with me having a season ticket the same people sit near me all the time & not many of them smoke, at least during the match & everybody around me hates it as well, so I think that puts people off. At the match you're stuck on a small seat, right next to 2 more with barely any room so if somebody blows a 2 lungfuls of air into your face there's no way of getting out of the way of it.

As I say, I can't wait for the ban to come into effect, it's long, long overdue imo but the sooner I don't have to breathe in fumes that if were spilled from a chemical plant there'd be a mass evacuation of the affected area. Just because you can buy cigarettes with the milk & paper in the morning, it doesn't make the fumes any less harmful.

I used to smoke 15 hamlet cigars a day before giving it up nearly twenty years ago

I voted "Filth".......Who better to preach than the sinner ;)

I am glad its coming into force, dont like it when the next table is smoking and you is trying to eat a meal. I think if they want to smoke do it in their own homes :ffs:

Well it's been nearly a month of smoke free public areas here in Wales and it's great! As mentioned it is really nice to come home after a night or day out not stinking of stale smoke.

Our College has enforced it so no more !Removed! butts and congregating smoking students. :D

Only trouble is there are groups of smokers outside pubs etc that you have to walk passed so you still get that passive smoke stench, but overall it's got to be a step in the right direction.

Can't wait - I for one will be having a lot more meals out.

I reckon most pubs will do loads more business once the ban is in place.

I've never smoked and can't see any attraction to it, it smells, it makes your clothes smell, it makes your fingers yellow and your teeth look nasty - what's the plus points??

One of the major thing that put me off girls when I was younger was if they smoked they didn't stand a chance - didn't even look twice

yeah its a good thing in my books! I started smoking at 11-12 years old im now 27. I gave up 2 days before new years eve due to it being banned soon. I'm so glad i have! i never would of bothered giving up if it was not for this ban. must admit i was shocked how easy it was to give up, i was smoking 20-30 a day and just stopped cold turkey and in 4 months not had a single drag. no need for silly patches or gum just good will power ;)

Its quality in the winter when you see them all huddled outside in the freezing temperature.

Is it really worth it?!

Living in Scotland we've had the ban for quite a while now and it's a brilliant idea. It saves my mum doing loads of washing too!

I love it smoke free. Now we don't have to worry about passive smoking, I'm hoping not too many smokers give up the filthy habit, where will the Government find the revenue? Watch out car owners and low wage earners....ooops, too late!

I am not a smoker and banning it is ok with me.

however ;)

being as no one as stuck up for it i'll give it a go

If we dont want to breath their smoke, we can walk out of the pub

why should they be forced to stop.

Like a none driver once said to me [he smokes], Why is he forced to breath in my car fumes ?

cars should be banned

{ i had not got an answer for him on that one :shutit: :lol: }

To be honest i do think pub owners should have a choice on this one,

either smoking or none smoking pub/restaurant.

Then us as customers would have the choice when we got to the front door.

*runs and hides,,,,,awaiting flaming  *

I'm all for the ban... I can't stand going out and having to inhale fumes.... and then you come home and your clothes stink....

How anyone can find that "cool" is beyond me!

And if people dont want to smoke outside, then quit! Saves you money plus your health!

I'm all for the ban  I know a few peeps that will be trying to give up when the ban starts. Smoking is dirty and smelly, and then there are the health implications on the smoker and non smoker.

Wish they could move the ban date forward.

As a smoker, the first day the ban came into effect I worried if I'd smoked anywhere I shouldn't have.

I have always gone outside for a !Removed! if we've eaten in restaurants and I like the fact there is no smoking in publics places... but then I work from home so I don't have the worry about the 'workplace' as such (my non-smoking Wife will disagree!)

Smoking is disgusting, I've smoked for more than half my life and I wish I didn't as it's xp, unhealthy and unfair on you non-smokers (and I mean that), but hey... I like it - sue me! ;)

I've voted smoking is filth!

I wish it had been brought in years ago when I used to smoke, I may have quit a lot sooner had cigs been banned in pubs.

BAN IT!!

I was in York the other day for a meeting. We all went out on the booze the night before and OMFG!! It felt like everyone smoked apart from us.

It was disgusting!! Pub was full of smoke and totally stank!! I'm just not used to it with living in smoke free scotland! :D

I smoke, but am kinda in favour of the ban in public places. I don't intend to quit because of it, even though I know I really should, and I am more than happy to go outside for a cig any time I need one (don't smoke in work, or in the house, so its just another part of my life that I need to go out for a cig in).

My only hope is that now we're getting booted outside, that the country actually looks after us. I don't wanna have an argument outside a club as to whether or not I was actually in there 5 mins ago. I don't wanna be sent to some grim back alley full of trash out the back of a pub. I wouldn't mind a small heater in winter. And most imporantly, I want a bin to put my cig end in once I'm done, so I (and the rest of the smoking population) don't get the blame from the non-smoking community for making the streets look such a mess... Remember who wanted us to go outside in the first place...

but then again they can walk out the pub for the 5 mins it takes to have a !Removed!, if we had to leave because of that we arent going to go to pubs etc!

Plus also us not smoking doesnt damage their health, dry out their contacts, make them smell etc.

Bring it on!
