I Think I've Broken My Finger...

Ok... too much drinkys last night and tom foolery has resulted in me seriously hurting my pinky.

My friend fell backwards when facing me, and he grabbed my pinky taking it with him. lol.

I can't straighten it because it's so sore. Can't touch anything with it either and it's about twice the size of my other one.

So.... I can't be bothered to go to the docs, or A&E. So what should I do?

I was gonna strap it with insulating tape to my other finger to keep it straight etc.

Anyone got any other ideas??

If you are going to DIY it, then definitely use a splint. When I dislocated my finger, I made the mistake of going to A&E rather than pulling it back into place. The didn't bother with a splint and just taped it to the finger next to it. This resulted in me having a curved finger as the tendons set in the wrong place, so now I can't straighten it and it aches a lot in cold/wet weather.

i need to find a home made spint somewhere then.

I would goto A&E, but seriously can't be bothered to sit for several hours while waiting to get seen!

Give a kid a couple of quid to go sit in the A&E department waiting for you. Then he can call you when he's near the front of the queue :D

Duct Tape will do it. You cant do anything for a broken finger other than strap it to another one (preferably a finger on the same hand).

Take an Ibuprofen as an anti inflammatory and pain killer.

Use an ice pack to get the swelling down and ease the discomfort.

Get a Magnum lolly because they taste good and you can use the stick for a splint

I broke my pinky once and cut the tendon while I was at it. I went to A&E the day after and they gave me some mad plastic thing that slid over my pinky and taped it on. I had it on for about 6 weeks and had to go back to the hand doctor to make sure the tendon had healed correctly.

Go to A&E at 3 in the morning, it'll be quiet then!

I can't offer any more advice than already given, but I have three things to say:

1) OOOOOOOOUCH!!! :(

2) As Les said, Magnums are goooood!

3) Alcohol got you into this mess, it could help get you out of it and will certainly dull the pain! :D

HTH Jimlad

Worst advice EVER on a Friday night. It's going to be absolutely packed. :drunk::gora::doctor:

Are you sure it's broken? I was playing football last week & was in goal & came out to claim a cross but because I'm so useless in goal I didn't have my hand adjusted properly & it sort of wacked my finger into my hand. It's difficult to describe but it didn't bend it backwards, it just pushed it back into the knuckle as you'd do if you were trying to do the opposite of stretching it to make the finger longer.

Anyway, the point, it was unbelievably painful & like yours swollen to about twice the size & I couldn't bend it at all but because of the way it happened I knew it was nothing serious & now, about a week later a lot of the swelling & bruising has gone. It's still far from far from fixed but given time I have no doubt it will be fine again. I'm not a doctor at all so don't take my word for it but it sounds very similar to what I was suffering with

Hi Jim, you should really take on board that stuff from Les, but you can always use some tie straps lol...

It's a high possibility it's badly sprained/staved? Either way a splint is a good idea to limit movement.

I'm not too fussed.... I have another 9... lol.

Still to strap it up tho. lol

I never even thought of that. Try Monday night Jim!

Anyway, I broke my pinky at P.E. back when I was in school and the medical person at school said I had only staved it but I knew it was more serious as I couldn't straighten it even if I tried.

I'd honestly go to A&E mate. 10 fingers are better than 9!

i once wne through quicker than i could sit back down after giving my nurse the file, i had eaten glass while drunk etc. and once I hyper-extended my wrist, best thing to do is make a split, use ice and pain killers :)

Well I've dislocated one pinky and chopped the other one off and I can definitely say that losing a finger is a lot more painful :lol2:
