"ATTENTION ALL PERSONS WITH TOYOTA INSURANCE"

HERE'S A LITTLE STORY THAT YOU MAY FIND INTERESTING. ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO WE BOUGHT A USED TOYOTA PREVIA GL FROM OUR LOCAL MAIN DEALER AND AT HIS SUGGESTION WE TOOK OUT TOYOTA FULLY COMP. INSURANCE FOR ME AND MY WIFE TO DRIVE. AS THE CAR PROVED UTTERLY RELIABLE OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS WE CONTINUED RENEWING THE INSURANCE EVEN THOUGH WE COULD GET IT MUCH CHEAPER ELSEWHERE. WE WERE PAYING NEARLY £600 WITH FULL NO CLAIMS. UNFORTUNATELY ON THE WAY HOME FROM WORK ONE DAY, AS I APPROACHED A ROUNDABOUT A CAR FROM THE MIDDLE LANE SUDDENLY SWITCHED TO MY LANE SEVERLY REDUCING MY BRAKING DISTANCE, UNFORTUNATELY I WAS UNABLE TO AVOID RUNNING INTO THE BACK OF THE CAR. WHEN I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA INSURANCE THEY LATER INFORMED ME THAT I WAS NOT COVERED. UPON CHECKING THE POLICY AND PREVIOUS POLICIES THEY HAD CHANGED THE UNDERWRITING INSURERS A COUPLE OF YEARS PREVIOUSLY AND WHERE THE INSURANCE COVERED PLEASURE AND DOMESTIC USE PREVIOUSLY SINCE THE CHANGE OF UNDERWRITING INSURERS THIS WAS CHANGED TO PLEASURE AND DOMESTIC EXCLUDING TRAVEL TO AND FROM WORK. THEY DID NOT POINT THE CHANGE OF COVER AT THE TIME IT CHANGED AND THERE WAS NO DISCERNABLE REDUCTION IN PREMIUM TO GIVE ANY IDEA OF A CHANGE IN COVER. WE ARE AT PRESENT IN TALKS WITH TOYOTA INSURANCE ,THEY HAVE OUR CAR,WE DON'T KNOW IF THEY ARE GOING TO PAY UP AND IF SO HOW MUCH AND HAVE DIFFICULTY GETTING ANY RESPONSE FROM THEM AFTER SEVERAL 'PHONE CALLS. IT'S A PITY THEIR SERVICE ISN'T AS RELIABLE AS THEIR CARS.

SO IF YOU HAVE TOYOTA INSURANCE CHECK THE POLICY TO SEE WHAT YOU ARE COVERED FOR !!!!:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:

I don't insure my car through Toyota but working in the insurance industry (household insurance), i know that insurers/brokers/intermediaries are all obliged to clearly show/notify their customers of any changes to the policy.

The FOS & FSA would be well worth an approach. If the insurer/broker etc cannot demonstrate that they have clearly notified these changes to you, in their documentation for example renewal notice, certificate addendum or key facts summary of cover, the FOS/FSA will back you every step of the way.

Keep us posted.

Good Luck
