Won Tickets To Silverstone

I've never been the biggest fan of F1 but this year I've tried to watch it a lot more because a mate of mine is right into it & her enthusiasm is rubbing off (having an English driver with a realistic chance of doing well has also helped, admittedly) but my brother really isn't into it at all. I've won a pair of tickets for all 3 days & although it wont be easy, getting out of work on Friday is doable, but baring in mind it will be me & my brother there, is it worth going for all 3 days?

I'm thinking about going either Friday night or Saturday morning in order to watch the qualifying and the GP, I was thinking about going for the 3 days but I can imagine the practice day being just for the hardcore F1 fans, is this right? Is there much to do when the cars aren't racing? Is it a case of 'watch them do their stuff then sod off back to the hotel' or is there entertainment & that?

Another thing that I'm struggling with is accomodation, with it being this short notice I'm guessing I'll be stuck with the crappy hotels that nobody else wants but has anybody got any recommendations or anything? Travel is another issue, it's 156 miles away (2 hrs 42 according to google) so I'm thinking about jumping on the train, is Silverstone close to any stations? If I do drive will parking be an issue?

I'm really new to this so I'd be very grateful for any advice whatsoever that can be passed over

Thanks

You're probably best giving it a miss really.

Weather will be poor, long journey, not much to do when they're not qualifying/racing.

In fact as i'm such a nice person i'll spare you the waste of a weekend and go in your place!

Jammy :censor: !

You jammy sod :crybaby:

After going to the F1 many times before , you will prob find out,

back up races will qualify on the friday , saturday will be qualifying for F1 and some more quilfying

for the back up races , usually a few back up races too.

Sat was a very good day to be there, you get to see alot more than race day.

we used to be there very early on the sat , by that i mean around 5am waiting for the doors to open at 6am.

when you leave the track on sat night you will find people already queing to get back in on race day

As for hotels you will be very lucky to find any this near to the event, i guess even the camping fields will be full too.

Maybe try a little further away from silverstone for somewhere to stay or keep checking the hotels/b&bs for cancellations

you never know

so i'm jelous :crybaby: Have a good day kev :yahoo:

Living in MK which is just up the road from silverstone and having worked at a hotel for 3 years which is literally minutes from the place I can tell you it won't be easy finding anywhere to stay particularly close! Milton keynes may be a better chance and theres good road/rail networks here so getting down shouldn't be a problem, it's getting over to the place which may prove difficult even if your driving.

Theres plenty of other places around which you can visit. If your a bit of an outdoor type you've Stowe landscape gardens near, Bicester Village shopping complex, central MK shopping complex, etc. So even if you don't go Silverstone or even go for part of the day qualifying/practice or whatever theres other stuff you can do and still attend the best bit (the racing!) on Sunday. Milton keynes is a good night out as well so Friday or saturday could also be an option!

If you don't go though you may regret it, these sort's of things don't come around very often!!!!

I dont live too far from Silverstone.... you could easily get a hotel room in say Rugby or Daventry and drive there...

You can even swing by here for a cup of tea if you like

You would be hard pressed to find a hotel near Silverstone.... try Staverton Park or Courtyard by Marriott - they're in/around Daventry so only about 15 miles drive to Silverstone
