Problems With Toyota 58812 Stereo And Ipod Interface

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience from using a USA Spec PA 12-TOY iPod Interface on the Toyota 58812 pre-installed stereo? I have a 2005 Rav4 and according to the manufacturer (USA Spec) it should work with my car / stero but obviously it doesn't. Does anyone have an idea if is possible to use this combination or not?

Question two: Does anyone know what the cable(s) currently connected to the cd changer port does? When I disconnect the connector the radio won't work.

Kind Regards

Martin

Maybe, but I thought that maybe the European versions are more similiar than a European and an american, that's why I tried here...

I still think the problem is related to the Rav4 more than to the iPod interface and since I have a Swedish sold vehicle... :)

This Ipod interface for the newer 4.3 does show the connection into the changer interface;

I can only think that the head unit must pick up a feed from your CD installation. Can you check it with a volt meter?

Strange that pulling the avc-lan/iebus/cd changer connector should stop the radio working.

From this link

58812

It looks like the 58812, has the older avc-lan connector (7+5 pins). The pin out for this connector is shown here:

Older IEBUS Connector.

From past experience, I'm fairly certain that the cd changer should be getting it's 12V feed from the radio (via pin 1 and 10 of the avc-lan connector) and not the other way around (i.e. the cd changer feeding the radio). Normally the radio power supply input is on another connector (probably the 10 pin connector in the 58812 picture, Can't remember exactly, but could probably find out with a bit more digging). Of course:

1. If the 12V output (pin 1) from the IEBUS connector is just a simple PCB track inside the radio to the usual radio 12V supply connector pin

2. Your normal radio 12V harness feed has been disconnected for some reason and

3. 12V has been connected into to your existing CD changer harness for some reason

then yes, disconnecting the CD changer cable, would stop the radio working.

With the remaining harnesses connected, if you can do it carefully, a voltmeter between pins 1 and 10 or possibly pins 6 and 10 on the radio avc-lan connector should indicate whether the radio is getting any power and whether it is going to supply any power to the ipod interface.

Maybe things are wired up differently on this model, than what I have experienced, but I can't think at the moment why that should be.

Cheers.

Thanks for your answers. I don't think the radio get its power from the connector, because the cd-player in the stereo still works and I can you the trip computer. I just can't listen to the radio. Really weird, but I will check the links you gave me and maybe I can figure something out.

Cheers

http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=29&cat=11&page=1

Y-Kabeln kan du köpa via denna sida:

http://www.auxs.se/accessories

I have had the same problem now, when I ordered the product xcarlink to my Rav4 2004 which has the stereo 58812.

According to the information on their side is the problem you beskrivr on the lack of a so-called y-cable, which will be linked in which it is intended to plug in ipod-interfacen, and cord which was already there. It is therefore a förgreningssladd.

As you can see on the page there are two different y-cables for Toyota cars. Let you not cause confusion of dates which are linked to nature. The fact is, they are not true dates. I myself have a Rav4 from 2004, in spite of this I needed Xcarlink-grunkan and cable set for the 1998 to 2003 cars.

I had to buy a "xcarlink ipod-interface" for the models 2003- >, but it did not work.

You can read about this here:

Had the same problem when I put in my xcarlink - The existing plug is a data bus loop that lets all the ICE stuff talk to each other, which is why if it's unplugged the radio stuff stops working.

Correct solution is the Y-cable as mentioned above but make sure we get the right sized one!
