Saved Myself £400 Quid On Insurance :)

I am getting two years no claims in october, and I'm currently paying about £1100 a year. With the two years no claims, I get insurance for about £1050.

I spoke to Norwich Union who suggested I put a parent on my policy as a NAMED driver, even if they will never drive the car. I put my dad on and the price dropped £350. Put my mom on as well (who had an accident Sept 03 when she had an argument with the gatepost at her house). That knocked another £50 off.

So my policy now has my mom and my dad on it as named drives and it saves me £400 a year .

And it's completely legal!

Have any other of the young drivers out there done this?

I was with Norwich Union.. untill I added modifications.. they don't cover modded cars.. so I was told.

As for adding a named driver.. mine got a little cheaper when I added my wife, new driver and had only just passed her test at the time.

i tried that with mine and got nothing from it, Quinn direct simply said in a very sexy irish voice, its the driver we insure primarily not any other named drivers so your premium is affected purely by the main driver

My insurance is cheap anyway but I still saved money by sticking Dad on it... he does drive the car occasionally though and I'd prefer him to have fully comp cover rather than third party only

I don't understand how this works but I'm always telling people to try it, it more than halved a quote I got when I 1st got my Yaris

Maybe it's something to do with the fact you're being associated with family who are good drivers... so the system therefor thinks you'll be a good driver? Lol.

Or maybe the discount from putting someone with 20+ years of driving experience out weighs the extra surcharge of being a young driver?
