Kwik-fit Oil Service

After couple of bad experiences in the past with regular servicing at garages, like failing to change oil and filter, I went DIY for servicing and minor repairs.

But today took our Corolla 2.0 D-4D T Spirit [116ps] to Kwik-Fit, Worthing for their oil service. Normal charge is £25 using Mobil Super. I wanted Mobil 1 ESP formulated for engines built to meet EU4. After some persuasion and referral to the manager, they agreed. Was charged £40.50p (after a 10% discount cos I am insured with Kwik-Fit).

Halfords price for the filter is £21.57p. So with 4.5 litres of ESP, £40.50p paid was less than parts alone. Watched the mechanics though the window. They did a good job allowing time for the old oil drain, etc. Was relieved to know that they did change the filter and poured in the correct oil. ;-)

Kwik-Fit oil service schedule that they publish, also include:

1. Check and refill of brake fluid, anti-freeze coolant, windscreen wash, power steering fluid.

2. Essential checks of lights, Battery charge and condition, exhaust emissions and condition, visual brake check, tyre thread and pressure.

But alas, they missed all of those. Most of these are stuff I do normally anyway, so did not complain. I was a little concerned about lipping of rear discs. I asked a mechanic and he inspected them thoroughly and gave me his opinion.

Kwik-Fit operation has the potential to provide value-for-money servicing, but some form of quality control / inspection is required, before they gain my trust.
