Problems With Keyless Door Entry - Help!

Hi,

I'm the very proud owner of a new Toyota Auris but I'm having problems with the keyless door entry. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. On occasions after having had to open the door with the key with the alarm blazing had to put the key up to the sensor by the start button to start the car. I work in the community so am in and out the car all the time. I wondered if there was a frequency issue at home but this seems to happen anywhere. I've just had a call from the garage to say they can find nothing wrong. Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so is there a solution?

I have to say in the three weeks I've had my Auris, the keyless entry has behaved impeccably.

So you're saying it simply ignores your hand being placed behind the door handle? It tells you in the owners manual that gloves and other things obstructing skin contact can cause problems, as can the "keyless fob" not being in the designated area, as also documented in the owners manual.

I guess the best way would be to ask the garage to demostrate their technique, and for you to try the system out in front of them.

Have you tried using the "other keyless fob" that came with the car, in case it's a faulty connection inside the fob.

I have had my T-Spirit Auris for about 3 months now and never once had a single problem with the keyless entry system. It works every single time. Sorry i cannot be of any help.

Thank you so much for replying :) I have tried everything you have suggested but to no avail but the two replies I have, have given me hope. Perhaps there is a problem with this particular vehicle as yours both seem fine. The garage changed the batteries in both fobs but when I got home and tried to lock it, it wouldn't lock. Not even with the fob in my hand grrrr!!!! Had to use the key. I've now got Toyota customer services involved so watch this space....

Thanks again

So you can't lock the car with the black button on the drivers exterior door handle, or the remote fob? The black button ovbiously bypasses the "Radio" side of things with the keyfob. So if the black button and remote fail to function that must point more to a "Central Locking" issue rather than a remote issue. So you have to resort to the "emergency key"? :o

Black button doesn't work unless you have the key fob. I'd suggest it's a fault in the handle unit or near field short range rf pickup (assuming you've not wrapped your keyfob in silver paper or something silly!). Get the garage to replace both (they'll probably just do both keyfobs too, easier than programming). Fairly common fault on mercs but never hear of it on Toyota and other Japanese cars.
