Square Jap Style Plate!

can someone point me in the right direction for buying a square front plate for my t sport?

ive seen a few sites but they have a few different sizes to choose from :S

kyle-lew has a nice sized front plate i think.. any help appreciated :)

Bare in mind, they are illegal. The police are generally too lazy to do bugger all about it, but as a point of law, an incorrect size is deemed as having no plate at all!

They 'loosened' the law a little on import vehicles as they often had a square shape to fit the plate but many people go one further and fit a motorcycle plate. (The lettering/numbers are smaller).

Perversely, many bikers fit straight plates to a bike... again, not allowed by law but usually ignored, 'till you get a jobsworth bobby! B)

My daughter has a funnily lettered plate on her Clio and has been caught twice by the fuzz (painfull) but they just told her to change it as it was an anti gatso plate. In typical fashion, they were too bone idle to give her a producer or a rectification order, so she still has it on!

New and strict MOT regulations came in force on 1st October 2007 for England for car registration plates.

If your car doesn't comply, it will fail your next MOT. They are clamping down on non road legal plates, so keep that in mind.

Plates fitted to models registered after 1 September 2001 that aren’t embossed with the name and postcode of the supplier and BS AU145d British Standard symbol will result in an automatic failure. The move is des­igned to make it easy for testers to spot non-road-legal ‘show plates’, as these don’t have a BS symbol.

Added to which, many a car sold brand new by dealers since 1st September 2001, with untampered plates, will still fail the next MOT, as many dealers didn't make plates which comply with the above (has to be both "name & postcode of plate supplier" + "British Standard Symbol").

Police very rarely pull people for having an illegal plate. As long as the letters & numbers are nice & clear (not trying to make the registration look like a name or something) & could be clearly read if your car was involved in a crime that's all they really care about. Pulling someone for something so minor is a waste of time that they could be spending doing more imprtant things (hiding behind a bush with a speed camera for instance).

However, if they are illegal don't think you'll never be pulled, all it needs is 1 annoyed, pedantic policeman looking for somebody he can dish out a fine to. Generally you should be fine though as long as you don't give the impression that you're a :censor: who's not capable of driving properly

Note: I'm just speaking about illegal plates in general, I have no idea what square plates are legal & which aren't

square jap plates are fine, its not as if im getting stupid slanted italic curly writing, alot of people have them on imports anyway as people have said, therefore its not exactly breaking the law...

anywway. any other sites ? or pics of yours and where you got it, some of them seen different sizes ?

The 'squares' ARE technically illegal! I stand by that, as I said, the law was 'relaxed' I.E. no-one bothers to do anything about it (No change there). That said, fit 'em and swap 'em at MOT time. I have noticed a rash of the olde worlde black, with silver lettering plates lately, often on expensive black motah's

btw mine is a motorbike plate, its illegal as the text is to small

cars from 2001 on have strickter guide lines from VOSA bs and makers postcode must be displayed correct colour and letter spacing and sizing no problem with square plates as long as they comform to the above...glyn..I run a testing centre...

Most dealers (Most) lol, should be compliant, as Hills plates have been the prefered supplier for a number of years now and their plates carry the correct format.

Just wait until secureplates become the norm, then you will feel the pain in your pocket! We are just starting to supply these plates made by Hills, approx 1000 pairs of number plates A WEEK are stolen or used for criminal purposes, mainly petrol drive offs and congestion charge avoidance. They break up into several pieces if you try to remove them

got one made up in the end but i only went and drilled it a little too low down :( so now the plate sits higher than i wanted it.

You could try re-drilling holes in the bumper, a little lower then the normal ones, with a smaller bit then the screws that will self tap in the new holes!
