Steering Wheel Column Lock

Just got a 2005 Toyota Corolla 1.4 Colour Collection. My question is about the steering wheel lock. With all other cars after removing the key from the lock I have always been able to put the steering wheel in the lock position by turning it either to the right of left. This is not happening on the Corolla, after removing the key the steering wheel turns freely and does not lock into position. Should the wheel lock? am I missing something obvious?

On mine got to give good fifth of a turn to right to get it to lock,prob same to left but im in habit of turning it to right so not sure. I guess try that,if no luck may be you've got something wrong.

I've got the same problem with my 55 reg Corolla 2.0 Diesel T Spirit. Any ideas how to get it to lock.

With my TSport you need to turn it 90 degrees to the right (clockwise) from the central position ie, wheels need to be straight :yes:

If it's not locking it's the pin in the steering lock that's gone. I think you can keep your key barrel and just replace the actuator.

As suggested you probably aren't turning the wheel enough. On most cars you just have to move it a little bit to lock but on my Yaris at least you have to turn it about a quarter of a turn to lock it. Doesn't feel good when you're doing it either!!

Had the same issue with my Corolla. Hadn't had it long and couldn't seem to get the steering column to lock - my previous Yaris only needed the slightest turn. Popped into the dealer and explained the concern. Man at dealers simply leant over and turned the wheel somewhat further than I thought it needed and it locked. Felt a complete idiot :blink: So it may be that you just need to turn it further as others have suggested ;)
