I travelled down to where I stay through the week last night, no problem.

Got in the car after scraping the window, it was only 0 degrees, started it, switched on the lights, and they promptly switched off. We all know at 0700 it is still dark, so I wasn't going far and very p155ed off as I could've had an extra hour in bed (I don't have to start until 1000 on Mondays if I want).

Anyway, the high beam still worked, so I adjusted the lamps to number 5 and coupled with the dirty lenses I made it in (late, because I wanted to be started by 0800) without blinding anyone (nobody flashed me).

The fuses are fine, as were the bulbs.

There was a thread last week about a dishwasher. I sincerely think it would have been a better use of my money if I'd have got one instead of this.

This is just the latest in a growing list of hassles with this car, and I really can hardly wait for the longer days so that I may have the time to get shot of this monumental turkey and look for a replacement. I'll never recommend a toyota, and wish it hadn't been recommended to me.

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas about the barsteward lights I would appreciate some feedback.

i spose all cars have problems matey, i guess you attract them ;) lol

giving the corolla got most reliable not long ago and toyota is known for reliability i think your being a bit harsh about "ill never recomend toyota, and wish it hadn't been recomended to me"

i aint had any problems and touch wood i wont in the future, mine is the same year as yours. i turned to the corolla after my last car was like your car is sounding at the moment, a nightmare ! but then it was a french tin !

I can see your point about perhaps being too harsh, although maybe I expect too much after running a Mk2 Golf Gti for 12 years and 280K miles and never doing any more than replacing fair wear and tear.

It might just be possible that 1980's German is better than 21st Century British? :thumbsup:

this may seem daft but it may just be 2 bulbs. i had similar on my old celica 1 lamp had blown when i hadn realised and i only found out when the other went!

i drove amile down the road and called out my breakdown people cos didn have home start and thats how fickle it was! ive had few niggles with my corolla but its never conked out on me toyotas just dont do that

in time u will see what a reliable car toyotas are. ive been a toyota driver for 4 years and other than servicing i havent had to foot a large repair cost for a mechanical fault

if its something to do with the electrics and not as simple as a bulb then it could take a while to solve (this being if the problem doesnt show up when pluged into a comp) dont know how they solve problems.

As im an electrician (mainly deal with A.C) and cars use D.C, when their is a problem with a D.C circuit the circuit can go wrong badly and problems start to happen. when you look at the wiring circuit at a logic point of view the problems dont seem possible but are actualy occuring.

im not too educated with D.C circuits so i cant realy help ya, keep us updated after you get the car checked over :)

It's most likely what Marty said.

If not, DC problems usually very easy to diagnose; just a question of working out what works and what doesn't then figuring out what the possible cause of that could be.

I doubt the computer will tell them much though, as that tends to be for engine related faults not ancillary electrics.

On the subject of reliability, I've been looking at new brighter bulbs for our Rolla and see that the brighter ones tend to have shorter lives, so perhaps that's why some 80s and 90s cars hardly ever blow their bulbs and much newer ones are having lots of failures?

I've been a toyota owner for the past 2 years having brought my Corolla T-Sport used and in its third year and I have to say that the car has been utterly reliable with no problems other than a seized brake caliper which was fixed.

Mechanically the car is sound and I've only had to replace the usually wear and tear items i.e. tyres and brakes.

Being one of the early Corolla T-Sports (02 plate) it might have been riddled with problems but this hasn't proved the case.

when i had the problem they guy from rac said if one goes then the other overloads cos the circuit has been broken. i onlt found out when i started up on the drive cos i can check my lights work on the garage door (lazy sod) instead of gettin out the car and checkin them

hope u get it sorted quick
