It isn't a "who you know" thing at all.. although a few people would have you beleive this is the case.

I have never spoken to steve at all except for the odd PM on here, only saw him personally one one occasion (and we never spoke). As for Les, the only times I have met Les was at 3 JAE's and once when he was visiting family in Scotland.

The management team look for certain qualities within a prospective members posts and try to get a grasp of the type of character they have... knowledge of how forums work or, as in the case on here, how cars work isn't an issue either, its more down to how they conduct themselves and their general outlook on life.

There are quite a few people on here who IMO would be very good moderators but there are also some who wouldn't, even although they are perfectly nice people. Getting a good balance of people is the key thing, too many people who think the same way wouldn't work as different views and opinions across the moderating team gives the balance that any forum needs.

Where I fit into this I've no idea .. I'll leave it for others to deceide wheather I do a descent job on here or not.

If you were running a site and needed moderators then you'd pick people who were established, regular members who could devote their time to the club. You'd also want people who you could trust to behave with their new found powers of moderation. The easiest way to do this is to pick people you've met through the club at meets etc. If you have a rough idea of their character then you can make a judgement as to whether they can do a job for you.

You can also judge people through postings they have made - especially in the more abrasive topics that spring up from time to time.

So I suppose Yes, you have to know them - or at least know enough about their character to offer them the position in the first place.

There are a few members on here that I reckon would be excellent moderators who I've never met in person - whether they ever will be moderators isn't my call though.

it seems to much effort though lol i'd rather just get involved than havbe to police it and with the way decisions get reacted to i would find it hard haha
