Fuel Filler Flap Is Jammed Shut

Hi (and happy Christmas)

My father has a P reg. (1996 I think) Corolla. Yesterday after he filled up with petrol a piece of the the inside of the outer flap to the petrol cap broke off. He then pushed the flap shut. Now the thing will not open! It's is normally opened from inside the car but obviously this small piece of plastic with a metal clip (the bit that broke off) is part of the locking/opening mechanism.

As far as I can see the only way to open it up now is to use brute force but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and had any tips.

Thanks

you need to get behind the flap from inside either the car itself or inside the rear wing , you can manually pull the cable enough to open the flap , then you can sort it out from there.

These Corolla's suffered from the cable detaching itself from the lift lever inside the car (cable 77035 where it meets the lever) the plastic lugs would break off and you have to replace the boot and fuel flap lever (its the same lever) From your description, it sounds like the opposite end has fallen off, they can be opened with a bit of brute force and ignorance by getting a screwdriver behind the flap, just watch the paintwork doesn't suffer

Kingo

NIGHTMARE! parts kong is right - my 93 corolla was a pain to open but if you hold the petrol release open and someone else open the flap you will hopefully be able to open it to make a repair. pm me
