New Joiner, Help Please

Hi Toyota Club,

I bought recently a Toyota Corolla, Model 2005 and I am wondering if you could help me with two questions I have.

1 – I have only received one key from the person who sold the car; it is with wireless remote controller. If I do a normal copy of the key (without the wireless mechanism), is that sufficient to start the engine and lock the doors? I don’t want to spend too much money on a spare key.

2 – My airbag light indicator doesn’t switch on when I start the engine. The Toyota dealer said that he needs to do an electronic analysis and open the entire dashboard to fix it. He quoted me £300 for that. Do I really have any other alternative?

Many thanks for your help

1. I think a copy key should be enough to use the car.

2. I doubt the dashboard would have to be opened up, surely to connect a laptop via the port would allow them to diagnose the fault. I reckon you should question them again on this issue.

Good luck

A normal copy will be fine provided you have it coded for the immobaliser!

As for the airbag, don't go to Mr T. Most garages can do a diagnostic check and fix the problem much cheaper!!

You will have to have a genuine Toyota key, without the transmitter built in, they are about £28, but it will have to be coded to your car which involves you taking it to your dealer, it only takes 15-20 minutes or so, it should not be too expensive. Total would be £40 to £50 IMHO

Kingo
