Gen 7 - Oil Additive

I was out buying some oil for my celica, (ive got the oil drinking problem) and i came accross some oil addatives to stop/ reduce oil burnage.

Would any of these make any differance to how much oil my car drinks due to the oval piston issue?

im currently using about 1-1.5L per 1000 miles and no, toyota wont replace my engine due to lack of a FSH!!

Can adding these oil additives damage the engine even further? my car is running perfect except the oil on the dipstick keeps going down!

Has anyone tried adding any of these??

Also ive put about 12K miles on the car since it started using oil and it hasnt got any worse. how long will my engine last for?? its got 65K miles on the clock.

cheers

looks like my cars doing the same, im still under dealer warranty but in big bold ubik off letters it says claims not exceeding £200 quid... so im screwed there

however my car does have service history but it jumps from 25k to 60k before theres any service history..

the 60k stamp was from the garage i got it from so its missing two stamps and just like any car dealer they will tell me where to go,

however i will try pursue a fix but at the moment im going to try and add some additives to try reduce oil loss. if it dosent work does the block have to be changed

or can you get the engine bored out and new pistons and rings fitted ? to combat the problem. as i really dont want to spend the guts of 2k on a new engine 2 months after i just bought it

http://www.millersoils.net/1_Millers_frame_AUTO_RETAIL.htm

I'm going to use this on my Corolla T-Sport, 10w40 Millers XSS. 5litres is 20.99 (i think its even cheaper on ebay)...it doesnt really use much oil its about 80% full in 6,000 miles. Millers stuff gets great writups going to change semi-synthetic every 5-6k rather than fully synthetic every 10k.

'Will provide reduced oil consumption compared with conventionally produced 10w40s and at the same time allow fuel economy to be maximised.

Provides high levels of engine protection over a wide range of driving conditions'.

Good value for 5 litres of oil...I would give this a shot....

I've used some oil addictives before, mainly STP (it comes in a blue bottle). However I've only used it with Halfords oil after 6 months on non Toyota's, to put some life back into the oil. From what I can remember, it just puts all the good properties back in the oil(& helps thin it down a little) that a good make oil(like your Magnatec) would have anyway between oil changes. That's for normal situations.

As for the oil drinking problem, do whatever you feel is best. As long as you keep the oil topped up (with or without oil addictives), you won't do it any harm. If you read any oil that's Semi Synthetic, it should state that it reduces oil consumption. That's compared to mineral oil anyway.

Putting oil in at regular intervals is a pain, but RX8 owners have to do that regularly. I'd say if you don't mind buying oil all the time, get you best oil for your budget. If you don't like the cost or idea of keeping a constant eye on your oil, or sadly sell/trade in the car.

Most oil additives only help in situations where oil consumption is due to seals, rings etc. The gen 7 Celica problem is essentially caused by what they call in the trade f0cked engine. Keep it topped up, being honest the 140bhp 1.8 is no masterpiece, if I had one I would put in the cheapest semi syn I could get.
