Free Oil?

I had my Yaris serviced yesterday morning and after I had paid the bill the service receptionist said "Oh you should take your 1litre pack of Toyota oil for any top ups between services. It is something that Toyota have started to give you"

I thought that was a generous gesture on behalf of Toyota.

However, when I got home and studied the full invoice I have been charged for the "free" oil on top of the oil used for the service.(£6-23 + VAT for 1 litre)

I basically do not object to the cost, but what really annoys me is the method of "selling by stealth" that was adopted by the garage. I was not given the option to refuse the "extra" oil.

Has anyone else experienced this "Extra pack of oil"...........which is not really needed.

The service department was closed yesterday afternoon so I could not ring them and complain, but I cannot wait for the customary "were you satisfied with our service" call that usually follows in a few days time.

BTW..........They seemed to make a good job of the service...........and I got my TOC discount...................OR DID I??

Maybe I will not wait for them to phone me............any thoughts??

If they were her exact words I notice at no point the word "Free" was mentioned and they would "Give you" it because you had paid.

Just my observations but VERY sneaky and worth following up

Personally I think it's a reasonably good idea (although the wrong way of foisting it on you), as I never carry oil and it is always best to have some just in case ;)

Yep, got several of these lined up in the garage as where we used to get the Rolla serviced always left one in the boot each year, and the car never uses a drop between services. After about three years I realised it wasn't 'free' and went elsewhere for the services.

Clever boys....

Something we can all be vigilant on!

I wonder if they will try that on me when I take my Aygo in, bearing in mind I have 3 years free servicing?

yep sneaky sales. always op up screen wash to the max or they charge for that as well, they may still try but check the invoice before you leave or make sure they know that you know its full when you drop it off

The oil wasn't left over. It was a new unopened 1 litre plastic bottle. The oil used for the service was charged at bulk price (33 units @54 pence per unit).

The single litre was an unneeded and unasked for extra.

Ah, the infamous Toyota 'units' of oil.

I did once ask what exactly a 'unit' of oil was and was told that it was a litre. Twas, on my Celica which apparently had consumed over 50 or 60 of said units in a single oil change. Determined not to change their story, they claimed that so much was used because they have to flush out the system (several time I guess). Had to speak to about three different people before they decided that they were mistaken and a unit was 0.1 litres of oil.

Another Toyota dealer that I've never been back to.
