Whats best B P Ultimate or Shell V Power ?

I found BP it makes mine run smoother and the lift is more explosive. Found V Power very flat in the lift. :rolleyes:

Out of the two i find V Power is better. My local Tesco does Super Unleaded 99 ron and i find thats the best stuff to use over anything else. ;)

I've used both on my Celica. Out of the two BP Ultimate is better, for some reason the 1 ron less makes a difference as the car does feel a lot better than with V-power. Saying that I'd use V-power over BP as I live nearer to a Shell garage & it's that 'little' bit cheaper most of the time. So it's a choice of easiness for me!

When it comes to high octane fuel, stick to the big guns (BP/Shell etc). Supermarkets tend not to have all the good additives in the fuel to go with it (hence why they sell it cheaper).

If you can cope with the cost, stick to BP Ultimate.

i use v power all the time, they is a bp garage 3 miles from me sells both bp ultimate and v power. ive always used v power since i got the car as i thaught it was the better of the two. i may change next time car empty to see if they is a difference :)

From my own experience & from reading bits, there's probably no real difference between them. Unless you have a highly tuned car, you wouldn't fully feel the effects. The best way to get some of the effects from the fuel is to make sure your engine is healthy, so serviced regularly, pipes all clean, ECU setup etc.

Therefore the results would vary from car to car & driver to driver. So the best thing to do is try Ultimate, V-Power & Tesco 99. Then from your own judgement, use what feels best. If someone disagrees with your choice, it's just what works best for them!

I will say though, that super unleaded is better. It feels better & you get more mileage than standard unleaded. shame it costs more. Bio fuel on the other hand was complete pants in my car, as I went through 1 & 1/2 tank fulls in the same time it takes me to use a tank of normal unleaded, using the same driving style.

Many of the large petrol companies have launched 'super fuels' - petrols and diesels that have a higher research octane level. These fuels are said to increase power in many vehicles, deliver less pollution than regular fuels and help to maintain a cleaner engine. Amongst these 'super fuels' are Tesco's Super Unleaded 99 Octane petrol, supplied by Greenergy, now sold at many stations across the UK and also BP's Ultimate 102 Unleaded which is currently the most advanced, high-performance petrol you can buy on UK forecourts.

Using Super Fuels

One of our users commented that using higher octane fuel than your engine requires actually gives no benefit and may be a waste of money. This is because virtually NO engines require 98 RON over 95, and the market for 'super' fuels seems to be based on people's misunderstanding of octane ratings and the placebo effect of filling up with 'more powerful' fuel - making motorists think their engine is running better in some way.

What do the fuel companies say then, to justify the "increased power" claims for the super grade fuels? Some companies say that while all fuels contain cleaning additives, 'super' fuels contain more or better detergents to keep the injectors cleaner than standard fuel. Others say the fuel is a few percent denser which gives slightly more power per litre. These benefits may be marginal though in comparison to the extra cost involved so it is worth ensuring that your engine will actually benefit before filling up.

Some engines actually do need higher octane fuel, such as race engines with very high compression and some turbocharged engines, such as the import version of the Nissan Skyline. Also, a few vehicles, such as the new BMW K1200R motorbike, can sense knock and adjust their engine tuning to take advantage of higher grade fuels. Another user commented that the 2004 BMW 330 also does this, according to the driver's handbook it makes 231 BHP on 98 octane and 221 BHP on 95. This ability is apparently widespread amongst German performance cars using Bosch / Siemens electronic engine controls. }}

Hi Guys, I'm new to this site and was looking for answers to the engine noise experienced at 75mph+ (RESOLVES PLEASE) when I came across this chatter.

Speaking to a mechanical engineer a couple of weeks ago, he see's lots of different cars everyday but has noticed in the last couple of years a sudden influx of injector replacements. His theory is that the only moving part within the injector is tiny and therefore only requires lubrication from the fuel passing thru it at considerable pressure. With the introduction of cleaner, leaner burning fuels the addition of these agents takes away the natural lubricants of the fuel and puts more wear and tear on the injectors which inturn causes them to leak and eventually fail. Fuel for thought me thinks. Go careful with those more expensive gases. This engineer recommends ordinary fuel from good service stations like Shell, esso, bp, and texaco. and steer clear of the expensive stuff and supermarket crap.
