I have a few VHS tapes that i wouldn't mind converting and saving to an external hard drive, apart from sending them away (don't fancy that) what other options are there? (don't get too technical please ;) )

Simplest option is a Hauppauge PVR-2 WinTV external card - very easy to install, good quality and a very popular card so you could buy one off eBay, do the business with it and then resell it again once done and it will have probably cost you about a tenner end of the day :lol:
