Dog Guards And Boot Liners Rav4 06->

So I have a new Rav 4 06-> (or do you call it a Mk5?)

Anyway I want to know who sells the best dog guard and boot liner?

My dog is a fur shedding 42.5 kg labrador, obviously I want to keep the bugger in the boot from slobbering me youngest on long trips and from muddying my boot when it's rainy.

I've found a few on eBay and of course I've seen what the main stealer has on offer but I was wondering what other owners think and use?

Pics of the items in cars and so fourth would be appreciated so I can get a feel for which is better and a rough cost/place of purchase would also be appreciated too.

This is the main stealer type boot liner I've seen on eBay £44.99 +£4.50 p&p

In addition I've seen this type of erm 'knock off' :) for £22.99 + £9.99 p&p

And this one of the rubber kind at £27.99 + £9.90 p&p

In terms of dog guards I haven't found any which I consider good enough. I tried a pets at home floor to ceiling bar type one but that was 'pony' and didn't fit properly due to the center shoulder strap mount. So any ideas would be appreciated!

If you ask Parts-King, but dont call him a stealer ! he will give you a 10 % discount for being a member on here.

He is parts manager for Lindop Toyota, so you would get genuine Toyota parts shipped direct to you.

Welcome to TOC by the way ;)

Hi and welcome from me, too.

I have the same vehicle and the very best are the Toyota ones. IMHO it's not worth fiddling around with any other sort of either guard or boot liner. The Toyota ones fit, are high quality and look the part.

The dog guard (I have the "half" one) is excellent, according to our Golden Retiever

Kingo (Parts-King) is, well, excellent.

Its an awful lot of money and won't ensure that hairs will fly around. Best to get yourself to the Pound Shop and buy some black plastic bin liners. Stick the dog in that and no hair should spread. You may need to tie the legs together, but do remember to leave the head out for breathing purposes.

Not many people have thought of that one, but I'm happy for you to use this idea - I used to use it for my 4 kids too. I've solved the kids problem by taking the passenger seats out. Kids get half price train and bus travel as anchorman will confirm. In fact, many of them travel for nothing as they dodge the fare.

The other thing you may wish to try is the box on top of the car with seats for the kids and the dog.

Aaaah, it's more than just the hairs you need to think about. When 35 kilos of Golden Retriever need to stop at approximately the same time as the car, and not a few seconds after it - something to do with weight, inertia and mass - you'll appreciate a good dog guard. I quite like the dog as he is, and not splayed out across the windscreen having killed me on the way past.....

I have considered the roof box option - but the dog caught me watching Wallace and Grommitt and started reaching for his helmet

Actually there is something called a Dog Bag for your boot it's more like a tent and is a lot cheaper option than a dog guard and mat.

Dog Bag link for UK website

For a Labrador it's £94.95

Thanks Parts king for the offer, I'm going to shop around a bit first before I commit to anything.

In addition I have found a Dog guard that fits to the back of your headrests it's of the wire mesh type and is about £50 in Halfords.

So theres a few options I've found today...

My Option costed £20 from Fleebay and keeps my Labrador happy for hours......He prefers to lick the back windscreen.....Takes me ages to coat it in anti nail biting lotion

I decided against a dog guard because when my two (Bedlingtons) get in the boot wet and do the ***** shaking thing I don't want my nice new interior smelling of wet dog, so have decided on a transit box from Transk9, pricey but will last forever.

I have the official Toyota dog guard and the boot liner, and have found the combination to be excellent. I have a 40kg Husky, and he sits happily in the back (although slightly cramped)

Ok for the life of me I can't figure out how to PM on this forum, so Parts-King, could you please contact me via my email roger.n.carr@gmail.com. I'm interested in trying to get this dog guard to the US. Thank you.

we have a 50kg Rottweiler. While we dont have a dog gaurd we do have the Toyota rubber boot liner which is super. It even has a raised 1 inch lip all the way around it so no water can escape off the mat and onto the floor

Hi Wardude

Water? Is this a euphemism for XXXX?

You can fill in the blank. :fear: I am not going to take the 'water' out of a rotweiler in case he gets :boxing:
