Good Price For New Auris ?

Hi,

I have read that you can't expect much discount from a Toyota Dealer on the New Auris and are lucky to get maybe 3 - 5% off list.

I have just ordered the Auris D4D T3 5 Door MMT in Black with extras of VSC (a must in any new car), Style Pack & Protection Pack and I am paying £14780 which is almost £2400 off list price. I have also got a reasonable HP rate. . . . oh and there is no trade in.

Is this a sign that the dealers are feeling it a little in the current financial climate too?

Any thoughts or comments regarding this price as to good or otherwise are welcome.

Despite what everybody thinks, and I have seen some know-all nonsense written about car prices, the margin in a new car up to about Auris size, is up to around 10% of the BASE price of the car. The dealer then gets a bonus from the manufacturer for hitting a sales target. If the dealer is on target, then you are going to get a small discount, if he needs some registrations and is near to his target, he may decide to give away some of his expected bonus in order to hit target. Where it all goes wrong is when he misses target and has given away the bonus he hasnt earned :eek: I know of no other business where you give away all the up front margin and work on a bonus you might not get. I can here all the know-alls saying, flash showrooms, trendy demos, bla bla bla, "never seen a salesman on a bike" but the reality is you have to turn the metal over quickly and work for much smaller margins, it's a tough business, and I'm sure in these tough market conditions, you will see many a smaller dealer go out of business, it's the way the market has been allowed to go, next time your in the local supermarket, ask if you can have to goods at cost, then throw a few more things in the basket that you dont want to pay for, and have use of the trolley overnight for free coz you need to shift some garden refuse to the tip and you dont want to use your own. I think Mr Sainsbug might tell you the error of your ways!

Yes you are correct in your reply on how the car market works but as with any product it has a price !!when you buy products from a supermarket you do not expect to have to trade that item in and lose on average £10,000 over three years on it.

Out of 10 sales how many customers get such a deal as the dealer makes no money perhaps 2 out of ten???

What happens when somebody does not ask for a discount ???

The sales side of the motor trade is just one side of the business does the dealer not make money on the parts and serceving side of the business ??

Can it be good business to do the deal and at a break even point and make money out of the servicing .

As for the little dealers going out of business that is just the way motor trade has developed (Just the big boys with the most clout )

If you look on the high street how many stores have sale signs in the windows .

I am afraid that this is just the way of the world it is no different from years ago some people will haggle to get a good deal some people will not and as I have said before no business will sell a car at a loss unless it suits the dealer :thumbsup:

I think that was the point I was making, I dont know of any other type business that has to sell something at a loss to keep going. yes we make money on parts and servicing, thankfully it is not illegal yet to make a profit, people have the right to go anywhere and have a service so it is an unknown quantity as to what future profit you will make on servicing. Haggling is good for any business, the difference between the high street and a dealership is that when you have an amazing 30% off something, there is probably still a 30% margin left. That doesnt happen in the motor trade, despite what know-alls think

Yes I understand what you are saying about the high street but that is probably why we are known as rip off Britain

Regarding profits no it is not illegal and of course I am sure your business is a very successful business despite customers trying to secure the best deal for themselves

That's a very well negotiated deal you have yourself there. No doubt aided by the credit crunch and possible pending deadline for the dealer to meet his target but good work nonetheless. :thumbsup:

Parts King, when are the actual sales target deadlines for dealers? Are they monthly, annual etc? Just wondering what the best time is to buy a new car ;)

I have bought new cars in the past but unless I can get a deal on a par with above I tend to look for ex demos or second hand up to around 12months old. I bought my 2.0 D4D Auris T-Spirit (6month old ex-demo with 3k miles on clock) + parking sensors + protection pack for £13500 back in November. :yahoo: Also got a good trade in price @£8½k for my 3½ year old leon cupra diesel...I can't understand why anyone wouldn't haggle! :wacko: and what does D4D stand for? :huh:

Targets are monthly with additional quarterly incentives, it is never and exact science. A dealer who has a target of say 300 cars in a quarter is not going to risk losing his bonus if he is close to target, so he may well give away the profit and some of the bonus in the form of fee mats or tank of fuel, whatever way it's done, there is only so much that can be given away. A typical dealer makes 1% ROI, fact!

Hehe, with the taxes in this stupid country, if I had bought my car for full price, with all the extras i have on it, the price here for a 1,4d4d is £29000.....

I guess I have payed around £25000 for the car as it stands now...

wow , i feel like crying. i paid 14,495 for my auris tr 1.6, in silver steel, i tried to haggle, but i guess not very well. i managed to get free floor mats worth 5o quid plush the supa gard at cost 150 quid. ... gutted :crybaby:

I got my brand new red 1.6TR for £11645 last July and that was based on a trade in price - I could have had a metallic for the extra £300 but loved the red and still do - I knew I was getting a good deal as they sold me a new one cheaper than the 4-6 month old used ones! also got floor mats and petrol included - like the car but like others have had odd rattles etc and I am disapointed with the quality of the interior plastics etc - I look after my car and it already has numerous scuffs/scratches in the interior

I just paid £13,500 for a new 1.6 T-Spirit with 3 years interest free credit and servicing thrown in, however this was against a lowish trade-in on my Vectra. With the deals it worked out not much more than for an ex-demo, so feel reasonably happy about it.

I think I got a cracking Deal on my T180. May have had something to do with the SR just being launched. It was ex demo with 9,500 on the clock, Decuma Grey, Sat-Nav, Stlye Pack, protection Pack, Lowering Springs, blue tooth kit..... £14,998. I know nothing of dealer margins etc, but looking around at the time, I haggled it down to at least £1500 less than any other sticker price at any other dealership. Why dont more Groups of dealers just have 1 or 2 showrooms that could be test drive showrooms, and then do the selling over the web, reducing cost bases etc?

I got my brand new red 1.6TR for £11645 last July and that was based on a trade in price - I could have had a metallic for the extra £300 but loved the red and still do - I knew I was getting a good deal as they sold me a new one cheaper than the 4-6 month old used ones! also got floor mats and petrol included - like the car but like others have had odd rattles etc and I am disapointed with the quality of the interior plastics etc - I look after my car and it already has numerous scuffs/scratches in the interior

did you order your car in red, or was it one they already had in stock?. if it was one from stock, i suspect they had trouble shifting it. hence the lower price over the used models, but hey... if red is the colour that floats your boat, then thats all that matters ! . regarding my own purchase. on the day of the deal i was stood in the show room waiting for a sales rep to become available, and was on the verge of walking out, due to the lengthy wait, then one appeared. during negotiations i made various demands... all were rejected except, as i,ve already stated, floor mats worth £50, supar gard for £150, normally £350, and they came back with an improved offer for the part ex of my escort from £700 to £1000... on conclusion of the deal my sales rep told me that he had only been at that dealership for one week and he had never worked at a busier show room. my car was the third one they had sold that morning!. and there in lies the key.. if their cars are selling like hot cakes, then they are not going to be under any pressure to give discounts. so with hindsight, perhaps i should have walked out and shopped around..... the moral of this story is.... shop around untill you are happy you have achieved the best deal possible. sadly its too late for me as my deal is done and dusted. so i,ll draw a line under this one and move on. :( :driving: p.s you are right about the quality of the interior though , or lack of should i say. :o

Hi & thanks for the feedback so far.

On the face of it I am delighted with my deal for the Auris.

I will find out tomorrow when I can expect to uplift my car from the dealership. I have also established from the main UK manufacturer of dual controls that so far they do not have duals available for the Auris MMT, so that means it is likely to be the first Toyota Auris MMT being used as a driving school car.

Initially the car will be for my own use but it will get used for Intensive Automatic Driving Courses as the demand increases.

After reading many posts on this and other sites where owners have made negative comments about the functions of the MMT, I am really looking forward to getting out to drive it and lean it's and my limitations and accept I may need to change my driving style accordingly.

It does not matter what deal you or anybody else got the important thing is that you are happy with the deal you achieved

When buying a car you really do have to spend a bit of time doing your homework and finding out what type of discounts are available and what your trade in is worth !! in the long run it does really pay off

Just thought I'd give you my experience of my recent deal...

I was originally quoted £13,500 for an ex demo 6 month old 2.0 D4D TR with 5500 on the clock. I took it out on a test drive, and when I got back, the dealer said he could give me a brand new one for the same money...due to Toyota finance contributions on a new car, and a further discount due to the fact that I was not a current Toyota customer...(a conquest customer he told me).

I was sold, but wanted to go away and think about it (anrd sort the finances out with the missus) and it was about 2 weeks later that I arranged an appointment for a final test drive, and a chance to do the deal.

When I got there and I told the salesman I was interested and wanted to go for the new one, he said because I was ready to place an order, I could have a further enhancement to my deal.

Apparently during Feb 08 loads and loads of the TR's had been sold but not many of the t-spirit models (he told me because the TR's represented much better value for money). The dealership had got an email from Toyota telling them that if there were any customers intending to place orders on TR's, to give them the option of having a brand new T-Spirit for the same price.

Obviously I jumped at the chance, and placed the order for a sliver one straight away, and got my 08 plate auris on 10th March, and i'm very very happy with it!

I didnt even have to do any of the usual haggling...the deal just fell at my feet!!!So £13,500 for a brand new T-Spirit!

Yes it sometimes just happens that way but I think it helps if the dealer knows that you are a serious buyer and that you have done your research !! well done for getting such a cracking deal

did you order your car in red, or was it one they already had in stock?. if it was one from stock, i suspect they had trouble shifting it. hence the lower price over the used models, but hey... if red is the colour that floats your boat, then thats all that matters ! . regarding my own purchase. on the day of the deal i was stood in the show room waiting for a sales rep to become available, and was on the verge of walking out, due to the lengthy wait, then one appeared. during negotiations i made various demands... all were rejected except, as i,ve already stated, floor mats worth £50, supar gard for £150, normally £350, and they came back with an improved offer for the part ex of my escort from £700 to £1000... on conclusion of the deal my sales rep told me that he had only been at that dealership for one week and he had never worked at a busier show room. my car was the third one they had sold that morning!. and there in lies the key.. if their cars are selling like hot cakes, then they are not going to be under any pressure to give discounts. so with hindsight, perhaps i should have walked out and shopped around..... the moral of this story is.... shop around untill you are happy you have achieved the best deal possible. sadly its too late for me as my deal is done and dusted. so i,ll draw a line under this one and move on. :( :driving: p.s you are right about the quality of the interior though , or lack of should i say. :o

They ordered the car for me (as probably not many others have chosen red,) but I love red and figured I am going to own, drive and keep the car so I will have the colour I like and not what the "trade" sees as a popular (other/metallic) colour!

I have read that you can't expect much discount from a Toyota Dealer on the New Auris and are lucky to get maybe 3 - 5% off list.

I have just ordered the Auris D4D T3 5 Door MMT in Black with extras of VSC (a must in any new car), Style Pack & Protection Pack and I am paying £14780 which is almost £2400 off list price. I have also got a reasonable HP rate. . . . oh and there is no trade in.

Is this a sign that the dealers are feeling it a little in the current financial climate too?

Any thoughts or comments regarding this price as to good or otherwise are welcome.

wow , i feel like crying. i paid 14,495 for my auris tr 1.6, in silver steel, i tried to haggle, but i guess not very well. i managed to get free floor mats worth 5o quid plush the supa gard at cost 150 quid. ... gutted :crybaby:

I got my brand new red 1.6TR for £11645 last July and that was based on a trade in price - I could have had a metallic for the extra £300 but loved the red and still do - I knew I was getting a good deal as they sold me a new one cheaper than the 4-6 month old used ones! also got floor mats and petrol included - like the car but like others have had odd rattles etc and I am disapointed with the quality of the interior plastics etc - I look after my car and it already has numerous scuffs/scratches in the interior

Hi,

Well I got word today that my new Auris is due in at the dealership on Friday 25th April and I will be able to uplift it on Monday 28th April.

Even better still, I have a good friend who has offered to detail my new car the following weekend using detailing clay and spray followed by polish and wax to give what will hopefully be a glass-like finish.

Just for the record, dealers don't own showroom stock, unless it has come to the end of it's free stocking period and the dealer has bought it, which is unlikely
