I have got this on ALL of my cars, its not an issue relating to just the Aygo.

The trick is to put your foot on the ground whilst your leg is touching the door sill or hold on to the metal of the car when you are putting your first foot down on the ground, this discharges the electricity without giving you a shock. Otherwise get out and close the door by pushing the glass door window, I had to do that with my mini all the time.

  • 1 month later...

Huh mines so bad that it produces big blue flashes at night, It's particularly worrying when getting out at filling stations, next to someone filling up, sparks/petrol fumes? scary.. only time it seems to not do it is when I wear my walking boots, which are a pain to drive in, no feel for the pedals.. Its beginning to ***** me off cos it usually hurts quite a bit as well, can i sue Toyota for damage to my person? lol.. also nearly everyone who travels in the car gets shocks as well I'll soon be Billy Nomates if I don't find a cure.. :crybaby:

Re-calling to ages ago because of the static shock I think it was the Mini had to have a re-call for an extra part near the petrol filler to stop the shock. If anyone remembers what I am trying to say please say so. My memory isn't my best asset :S

I remember something like that for the old Opel (Vauxhall) Astra F in 1995.

An earthing clamp hadn't been fitted to the fuel filler neck, so it could build up

static charge and discharge with a spark when puling out the grounded fuel pistol...

Yup- when you open the door to get out just make sure you've got one finger on the metal and step out. No more static worries.

It can happen inside the car too. I get it from my radio sometimes. (Volume knob is shiny).
