Aygo Servicing Costs - Uk

My Aygo is in need of its 3 year service which I decided to shop around for and get done a week or so before the 3 year warranty expires. My understanding is that it is an Intermediate service (so generally just oil etc). I am really stunned at the huge difference in costs between certain UK dealerships. Bear in mind I live away from the large towns which usually have high labour rates.

Initially the dealer who has carried out the first two services quoted me £144.65 plus £50.35 for an MOT. Another dealer quoted exactly the same (but then I established they are all owned by the same group, although not called the same). Travelling further afield, to the Lookers group they quoted £124.33 plus £50.35 for the MOT.

I finally rang a dealer in Braintree, Essex (a small official Toyota garage who appear to not sell new cars but do official servicing). They explained from my registration number that the third service would cost me £72.15 plus £40 for the MOT if carried out at the same time. This also includes a wash and vacuum!

Guess which one its booked in at (even if it does cost me £10 in petrol to get there)!

I honestly think that some garages think we are daft and will just 'book it in for you then Sir?'. Bear in mind Braintree in Essex is not a tiny place where I would have thought labour rates would have been higher than the more rural locations in Essex?

Anyone else found this sort of thing?

This happens everywhere. Always has, and always will.

When I had my lexus, the difference between quotes I used to get were staggering! Sometimes hundreds of pounds!

It depends on how the dealers want to work. Let's face it, if you charge twice the price and get half the customers, you still net the same amount of cash, but only have to do half the work! Simple economics, really, I suppose.

Different dealer networks will have different overheads/operating costs etc, so that will play a part also.

The differences on Aygo's will be obviously smaller, but always worthwhile shopping around!

All garages are business so services are priced at a level they can get away with. One thing to always check is that any quote includes VAT - some garages seem to 'forget' to mention this until it's time to pay.

I noticed an ad in a car mag for an independent Audi specialist with the hourly rate in big letters, then in small letters - price excludes VAT. Once you added VAT it was the same price as my main dealer!

Has anyone tried getting their Aygo serviced by Citroen or Peugeot as its essentially the same car as a 107 or C1? Is this not advisable? Will they refuse to do it?

Hello,

You can get your Aygo serviced at any VAT registered garage. So long as they use the official Toyota parts and stick to the service schedule your warranty remains - you'll just need to take it to a Toyota dealer for any warranty work, which is free anyway.

When mine is due for its first service I'll be using the independent garage up the road, it'll cost probably £50 and save the ordeal of sitting about for what seems like many hours waiting at the dealer.

You could go to Citreon or Pug, but from info I've gathered the Toyota is generally the cheapest to service (if you shop around!) - we paid £105 for our Toyota first service, a colleague with a 107 paid nearer £150. Both Toyota and Pug main dealers in the same city.

I'm getting my car serviced at Pug on Wednesday (1st service) so I will post the costs on here.

I'm only going there as its practically walking distance to work rather than doing a 25 minute drive to Toyota and they don't have a courtesy automatic car I can have (can't legally drive manual).

although I live in London now, my car is based in Chelmsford at my folks house and I rang up Chelmsford Lookers and they quoted me £124 and then I also rang Braintree and they said £72.40 complete bargain I say.

Also some advice regarding servicing.

I have had my Aygo for just a few months over 3 years now (warranty expired) and I have only had 1 service done on it a year after we bought it. What service do I need now? I only have about just over 10,000 miles on the clock. I don't use it much given I spend most of my time in central London at university.

Regards,

Anup

Next time I go to Toyota even if I do need to take time off work to get it done!

The worst bit is the guy said there was not much to be done !!

I shudder at the thought of it requiring lots of work there.

Even though Toyota is further away from our experience they will give you a lift if you book it in advance. Alternatively book a 'while u wait' service if you can find an hour in your day.

Think I know the dealer you mean. I would like to know what you think of the service - am thinking of using them for my Corolla.

Let us know on the board how you do.

Aygo was serviced today - exactly the price quoted - 3 year Toyota Intermediate service (with an MOT) all in £112.15!!

Car was washed and vacumed and was ready in an hour and a half.

This particular garage seemed to be waiting for us when we arrived and didn't seem very busy. Very pleased with service and recommend it highly to other Toyota owners (especially those that want to save over £82 on their official Toyota service)!!!

Just had the first service (Now dont shout at me) after 2 years and 32K miles on the clock. I know the warranty is probably now kaput, but im not that fussed. Only charged me £107 for full service, oill, filters , new Wiper Blades, a bulb and a few extra minor adjustments. From a local garage as Mr T does not have a rep in my area.

Got to say ill be visiting my local garage from now on. great service and a good proce given the lack of previous servicing.

Good old Aygo.

Would definately consider getting another when this one has to go.

cheers

dave

Sounds good. Think I'll at least call them for a quote when my next Corolla service is due

Most Toyota centres now offer a 'service plan'. You pay a small monthly amount by direct debit (normally about £15 or so on the Aygo) and then you've already paid for the service when it's due. The best thing is that you can get the service plan up to 9 years and the price is fixed for the whole term. With oil hitting the record high of $146 and not looking at slowing yet surely any price fix is a good thing! Most will collect and deliver your car to you too (within 15 miles) so it becomes very hassle free and cost effective over the long term!

Just had my 20k service done for £105. Took it to a local independent. Couldn't justify spending £180 for an oil change and a few visual inspections I already make myself on a weekly basis
