Hi Everyone

Just getting so excited, my new Aygo Blue has been delivered to Toyota and I can pick it up tomorrow - I cant wait. I have never had a new car before, so could anyone tell me is there anything that I need to look out for when I collect it or anything I need to do while it is new. At the moment I am driving hubbys Peugeot 307SW so I am aware it will be a totally different drive, I am a bit worried about hubby driving it with the way he drives his car.

Roll on tomorrow, speak soon

Madeleine

Make sure its well cleaned and any obvious faults can be spotted. Don't forget about how much petrol it comes with also.

Good luck and enjoy.

Hi Madeleine

I too had never had a new car before (& also hadn't driven for 15 years) until March this year. I can understand your excitement.

I would suggest you take your time & check it over with a fine tooth comb - inside & out, there is no rush - it is a big investment & you must be 100% happy. They nearly forgot to give me my locking wheel nut set - so make sure you have everything you should have. It was only when I picked mine up they mentioned the GAP insurance & Supagard - I know that you already have details of these. I did take out the service plan - this is entirely up to you, I just preferred to do it monthly rather than pay out a lot in one go & it includes the first MOT charge in year 3 - I think quite a few other people on here have gone for it.

You could also try for a few little extras - I got a litre of oil & a boot liner out of them at this stage - just try to bring it in to the conversation.

Once you've driven it - you won't let hubby near it!

Good luck tomorrow & let us know how you get on.

Check the panels for any dings or dents. Check the wheels for kerbing and scuffs. There should be knobbly bits of rubber on the tread of all the tyres (check front ones to make show it hasn’t been wheel spun around the car park). Make sure you all the documentation, tax disc users handbook locking wheel nut and extras you paid for are there, and drive carefully for the first 500/600 miles.

Congrats well done

As above had said check it over but am sure if its new from a Mr T garage then they will rectify any problems you find afterwards anyway, but dents and dings check for as you can prove it wasnt you after you leave.

As for the husband, dont let him drive it, I let my ex drive mine and the first thing he did was scratch all the alloys  one reason he is now the ex

I got mine, must be three weeks ago today! Or was it two? Hmm..... I think it was the 19th??

Anyway, the driver door was smeared with some..... thing. I told the guy i wasn't accepting it like that, he took it round the back and got it polished up. I checked for scratches all over (including the glass) and inside to make sure nout wrong with the apolstery.

Just give it a good check over ,then have fun driving off!! take a good 20 minutes to get used to the petrol and bite. Im still not totally used to it I tend to over rev when reversing

As mentioned in the above replies:

Check for dings in side panels and scratches on bumpers

Make sure you have locking wheel nut key (if u have alloy wheels, if they are steelies you dont need locking wheel nuts)

Make sure you get 2 keys (spare wont be a remote key)

when you drive away go and check the tyre pressures (should be 32psi)

Dont let hubby rev it hard until it has done at least 600 miles!

PS SJ im free if u need a new hubby lol, promise not to scratch your wheels.

Hi Everyone

Been and collected my new addition - I love it. Checked it inside and out and there wasnt a mark on it - everything was as it should be.

When we went to collect it we told them that we were not happy with 'customer service' that we had received, no courtesy calls, when we went over last week we had to wait nearly 45 minutes to be seen, we were not told what docs to bring with us, etc. The manager was in and he came to deal with us so we told him that we werent too impressed, he said he was very sorry and has offered us - 3 years free servicing - free supaguard and then gave us a bottle of bubbly, we couldnt beleive it, that was on top of the £450 discount and full tank of petrol that we had already managed to get.

Hubby has driven it, but i did shout at him when he was trying to overtake, think it might be a while before i let him loose with the car again.

Thanks for all the advice that you have givn me.

Regards Madeleine

Glad all went well for you. You did very well to get the free servicing & supagard - you have to get what you can from these dealers. You should take it easy for the first 600 miles running in period - I kept below 65mph, apart from that - go and enjoy!

Hope you're enjoying the new car, I'd not heard anything from my dealer for a while so gave them a phone this morning to find out they'd already got the car, should be able to pick it up this week once I've got the required paperwork to them.
