Ecu Reset - Advice Please

Hi All,

If you've read my earlier post this week, you will know about the MAF Sensor wire snapping. Does anyone have the definitive answer to whether or not an ECU Reset will clear a fault code?

As the car is in limp mode i.e 3,000 RPM max, will it have to go to Mr T to be cleared? I dont want to replace the wiring/plug and then reset the ECU for the warning lights still to be on due to the ECU still having a fault showing.

Can anyone advise?

If you remove the negative it will clear the code.

If your air flow sensor is not giving a reading because of the damaged wire the light will come on again straight away and your car will go back into limp home mode. But as you have said you have a new connector to go on it

So provided the plug replacement is completed correctly, and the Battery disconnected (for long enough) when i restart the car the code will be wiped and the warning lights gone. As long as i dont have any other problems!

Cab,

As You're aware I had this problem myself. Once the wire is fixed. you should simply be able to reset the ECU by removing the two 15amp fuses in your fuse box for about 10 seconds. One of which controls the ECU, and without a fuse it cant function, saves having to leave the Battery disconnected for 30 mins...

Worked every time for me and I've never had any problems. (except resetting the clock Ofc! :P)

This will clear any codes that are now resolved. So as long as your wire is fixed it'll clear it!

yes , remove the Battery negative for 30 mins and all should be dandy ,

assume you were soldering today :)

Yea 100%. You will have to tune in your radio again and also the one touch wont work on the windows till you set them again. I dont know does this apply with removing the fuses.

I have a obd2 code reader so if i ever need to do it on a car i just use that. Handy for reading codes, no exactly what's wrong then. It only cost me the price of getting a diagnostic check from a main dealer

Should be collecting the replacement part in the morning then the job starts, fingers crossed all will be ok, last thing i want is me doing the job right but the lights staying on cos the ECU reset doesn't knock the code off. Then i wouldnt know if i had done it properly or not.
