A Couple Of Pc Gaming Questions...

I used to be really into constantly upgrading my pc and playing games on it etc.

At the moment I have a PS3, Wii and 360, but some part of me wants to get into PC modding again! :)

Curious as to what the current state of the PC gaming industry is? Obviously you walk into a games shop and you're bombarded by PS3, 360 games etc, but what about the PC?

I have a 37" HDTV that I would connect it to in the livingroom along with a wireless mouse/keyboard.

I'm also a bit behind on the technology side of things, what would I actually need for good gaming performance these days?

I basically need a case, something that looks decent to sit next to the TV, a graphics card with a DVI output so I can run DVI to HDMI cable, motherboard, CPU + Fan,Power Supply, Ram, Hard Drive, DVD/CD Drive, sound card.

I was looking on eBay and you can get AMD Athlon 4600 Dual Core Processor & Motherboard & 4GB, for £125.. but tbh, I don't even know if that's any good!

I'm soooo far behind in PC technology!

The reason I want to possible change from console to PC?

I have C&C games for the 360 and it annoys the !Removed! out of me that I can't have more than 50 units at a time!! (sad, I know!)

To be honest mate, it all depends what you wanna go for.

My current specs: AMD 64x2 5000+ 2.6Ghz, 2GB Ram, GeForce 7900GS 256Mb.

This enables me to run most current games at Full specs at a decent FPS. The Obvious PC basher though is Crysis. I can get 30-40FPS on medium Settings... Ouch. (These specs costs me £700 Including 19" monitor about 18 months ago)

I'm in the process of 'bribing' the misses to let me buy my new one.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66Ghz each

3 Way SLi EVGA nForce 780i Mainboard

4Gb Corsair XMS2 800Mhz ram (With heatspreader)

2* 1GB nVidia GeForce 9800GX2's!

Creative Labs X-FI Extreme Gamer 7.1 Sound card

500Gb SATA-II 3GB/sec 7200RPM HDD.

The above specs (including case & cooling ofc) comes up to £1700... But rest assured it'll play any game at full specs for atleast ...... 2 Weeks! xD

Seriously though, if you wanna be future proofed for a while, Get a Quad instead of a Dual core processor, Go for atleast a GeForce 8800 (or the ATI Equivelent) and 2Gb 667/800Mhz ram. That'll last you a while anyway.

Hope I made some sort of sense in there...

P.S - DaveSR - Isn't 50 pushing it a bit? I obliarate most things with just 10! xD

Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 Ghz

GeForce 9800 GTX 512MB OC

mushkin Low-Latency Gaming 4GB DDR2 800

GIGABYTE GA-73VM-S2 G33

How would the above fair for decent PC gaming?

IMO, That'd run near, if not everything ATM on max settings with ATLEAST 60Fps :P That's including Crysis, Age of Conan etc etc..

Dont see why it shouldn't.

Haha, Don't look at me!

I sold my 360 with 2 pads & 6 games to my Uncle for £250 months ago! So I could buy my Wii.... lol.

Oh, As for not having more than 50 units at a time?........

At this particular point I must have been getting.... 10fps? If that. lol. All max settings ofcourse :D

I've got a Wii, PS3 and 360, but now want a decent PC!

C&C is good on the Xbox... but it's really made for the PC!

That's the thing that gets on my !Removed! on the Xbox... can only have 50 units?

What?? You have loads of money, a well defended base. Building up an army, but then can't build anymore because some ****** puts a limit in there!!!

  • 11 months later...

I find the graphics are way more intense on my PC, games run smoother, and its err a lot quieter! (until the graphics card really gears up).

I built it over a year ago (in its current form) so its not "latest spec" but i still copes with most thigns I throw at it, full settings.

AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition

Asus M3A32-MVP Deluxe

Corsair Dominator RAM 4GB

Saphire ATi Radeon 3870x2

2x500gb Barracudas in RAID 0

all in a rock solid sound deadened cooler master atc 710 case

No doubt, now Sims 3 is out I'll not get a look in on it lol
