Gear Stick Gaiter Keep Slipping Down?

Try this method to stop your gear stick gaiter from slipping down.

1. Aquire yourself a medium sized elastic band.

2. Pop the gear stick gaiter out from the surround. It's just clipped in. Lift it up so it's inside out.

3. Stretch the elastic band over the gearknob, gear stick and gaiter so that it is only going around the gear stick shaft on the thicker part near to the top.

4. Do this as many times as possble, so that you end up with the elastic band tight around the top of the shaft.

5. Drop the gear stick gaiter back down and clip it back into it's surround. You should now end up with the elastic band inside the thin part of the gaiter, making it more difficult for it to slip down.

Note: the gaiter will never stay right at the top because it's not long enough to allow 2nd and 4th gear. Leave it about 1 cm from the top and it should stay there!

Hope this makes sense, if anyone wants i can take some pics to illustrate :)

Or get a plastic wire and tie the top end in place, just above the scrue.

That might look a bit shoddy ;)

Or buy a nice leather one off eBay; Mine has yet to slide down as it is a really tight fit! :naughty:

What sort of quality are they? do they clip into the bottom or do you have to fix them another way?

I'd be interested in any photos :)

You need to take the plastic frame off the original and put it on the replacement but it is Aygo specific.

Nope, not if the wire is black and cut nicely :) You can't even see mine, only if you look very close.
