Gen7 Celica Sony Radio Problem

Hi all, just picked up a gen7 silver celica today, i think i got a pretty good deal...however, the previous owner recently changed the Battery, and since the change the radio has stopped working. all the controls on the standard sony system do not work; if a cd is inserted it plays automatically but if you try to increase/decrease volume or press any of the buttons at all it does nothing. Does anybody know the solution to get it working? the cd just plays but none of the buttons function at all.

Many thanks for your help. i have tried resetting but that even doesnt work!

Check the connection block at the back as you may have a bad joint in the wiring that is providing only power down the permanent +, not the ignition +, which will only give it enough power to function so many parts. I had this with a CD/DVD player and it all seemed to work but the buttons didn't work or did odd things.

The other thing to check as daft as it sounds is that the shift button isn't pressed to change the function of the buttons (the lights will come on above the buttons if it is pressed).

I've never done it on my Celica but I know on other cars I've had, if the Battery has been removed long enough the stereo will go to it's default settings. This means that it will not do anything when buttons are pressed until the security code is entered.

Try entering the security code as per the manual. See if that works, if not then as others have mentioned, its either a connection or a problem with the stereo.

That Sony doesn't need a security code, so not much point in chasing down that one...

Sorry to be a complete noob, but where is the connection block? is it behind the stereo? thanks for the replies guys...havent really had a chance to even drive the thing just got back from work!

Personally I havent taken my stereo out of this car yet only had it a week and quite like it, but if you remove the unit (presumably just pull-out by the looks) the connect block will be at the back of there, usually a standard ISO block (white with leads in). The + power if you are looking into the connector block on a standard ISO is the first bottom right wire and the 4th wire IIRC, so just get your testers on them to measure 12+ with no ignition on one line, and 12+ when ignition is on another.

problem still not sorted..only the cd eject button and the off button work...nothing else is functional! Im thinking of just changing the unit to a double din one...can anybody recommend a unit? also, what are the standard Speakers on a celica like?
