what type of pads are used on the yaris. ive been looking on the net and from reading it seems that some cause the brakes to squeak more than others. im still having the problem of very on and off squeking brakes when braking at very low speeds. was advised to brake hard every day sometime it works sometimes it doesnt and the problems at its worse when the cars been sat in the rain. its really annoying me know and its getting to the point where im looking to the day in a few years where i can sell it on. and force myself not to go near a toyota again as my last yaris had exactly the same problems and i told myself i wouldnt get another. :(

How long have you had the car for? I had a problem when my brakes made a very high pitched squeaking noise every time i braked, and it turned out that i needed to replace my pads as i had worn them right out!

The other thing could be some rust on the disc's. Many people have had this problem. Instead of just braking hard, try braking for a long distant. Just drive at a medium speed, (towards a junction or something) and start breaking about 100 yards or so before you actually get to the stop so that you pads have time to rub off all the rust.

If it isn't any of those problems, then someone else on here will point you to the right direction! ;)

thanks for that. this is maybe a dumb question. but is it rust on the actual pads or on the disks. because obviously if u just brake hard once its only going to clear the rust/dust that is on the section of disk that comes into contact with the pad. so i guess u are saying its on the actual disks hence the braking from a long distance. it also confuses me as to why the noise happens at very low speed but not at other times. any ideas

It is all to do with modern brake pads not containing the softer asbestos that they did several years ago......(Health and Safety)

Lots of modern cars have squeaky brakes at low speeds...........it has become quite the norm :(

Another consequence of the harder "squeaky" brake pads are that they tend to wear down the brake discs faster than the old asbestos based pads did.

[it could also be brake dust on ur disc , so flush down those wheels with a jet wash and you will see the black brake dust coming out

it may also be that when they were fitted there wasn't enough copper grease applied. i have been told that when you fit new pads you need to apply lots of grease. try finding a cheap garage that will have a look for you or if it s a new car take it back to the dealer as it should be under warranty.

thanks for the advice. i cleaned the disks down yesterday as they were filthy. the part of the discs that come into contact with the pads. its that the large flat surface or is it the edge of the discs at the top (the very thin part.)? after i washed them down the discs went very rusty but it came off after a quick spin around the block.its quite rusty at the very top where theres the thin edge and the gap where the top of the discs meet what annoys me is the on and off of the squeaking. i drove about 10 miles with no problem parked up for an hour then drove off again and after driving off it happened 4 or 5 times continuasly.then it stopped again and there was nothing for the rest of the journey home. its makes no sense lol its not like it happens at the begining of the journey and then goes away after the discs have cleaned themselves.it just seems to stop and start with no reasoning.that makes it even more annoying. at least if it was all the time you could take it to the garage and it would be sorted.

or if it s a new car take it back to the dealer as it should be under warranty.

yeah its new but its already been in once and they just said theres nothing wrong after going on aroud a 40 mile test drive (probably took it home to do some shopping as they had it for days) i dont have much faith in my dealer and its a hasstle taking it in and then having to walk miles to get a bus/train home only to get a phonecall and hour later and having to make the repeat journey after they say theres nothing wrong or claim to have fixed it and nothing was done (as with my previous yaris)
