Hi I have a 2002 Toyota Avensis GS. The bonnet catch won't open the bonnet. How can I get the bonnet open?

Thx

Hi and welcome to TOC

Not sure about the Avensis, but usually you can get to the bonnet catch mechanism from under the front of the car and trip it with a sturdy screwdriver.

When you pull the bonnet release lever does it come back with virtually no resistance or does it seem jammed stiff?

The usual suspect is the release cable which sticks in it's sleeve after time. If it's really stiff then you could try getting someone to push down on the front of the bonnet ( just above the catch ) while you pull the lever. It might just take enough strain off the mechanism to allow it to trip.

Good luck

Don't forget to grease lock mechanism to avoid this problem.
