Claiming For A New Windscreen On Insurance..

Anyone here had to do this???

I have never made an insurance claim in my life... but this morning on the way to work my windscreen went with a bang :(

Without my insurance documents with me I can't answer these questions, and the website is not overly informative...

As far as I understand there is an excess to pay (about £70) and you need to use one of their approved suppliers, but can specify genuine OEM parts...

Has anyone had a windscreen replaced on insurance? Did it all run smoothly or did they send some cowboy idiot out to do it???

Any feedback welcome!

My dad had to claim for a windscreen on his Mercedes a few years back.

One phone call, paid £50 excess and that afternoon an autoglass van turned up and replaced the window at his work.

It was not an OEM part though.

Good luck in getting it sorted, just give your insurance a call.

Hey Charlie... I got my windscreen replaced on the Matiz on insurance.... was £50 and Autoglass came round to fit the new one.... they were gone in a couple of hours and all was well.

Your insurer should have a glass line you can call and all the paperwork is handled at their end so literally all you have to do is call and pay the excess.

I had my screen replaced on the day I traded my car in for the Verso. Tesco Insurance £75 excess no effect on NCB the Autoglass van met me at the Toyota dealer. I signed the form, the Toyota dealer took my old car with smashed screen and I drove off in the new Verso :)

My old car had auto sensing wipers so the screen had to be correct for the sensor, don't know if it was OEM as I never saw the replacement.

I've had loads of screens over the years, on all makes of car including my Cadillac BLS (which had only been out for 3 days!) which had the same as the Saab 9-3, i've only had Autoglass or Autowindscreens, never an issue with any parts fitted, even on cars with Auto Wipers & lights.

You'll be fine

Had numerous bits of glass replaced by either break-in or stone chip / crack.

On the whole its been easy - giving my insurance details to Autoglass / similar (although it does have to be an insurance company approved company - call and check first!) and they have done the rest. I have had one problem with a Windscreen though - they didn't seal the window in correctly in my Civic, and I started getting water in the passenger footwell. It was quickly sorted with another new screen, but further down the line, the bearings must have gotten rusty in the cabin fan motors as it would grind and squeek! I have no proof its the water that was let in that caused the damage, so could never get it sorted out, but really, what else could get a fan inside my dashboard??

If you're struggling to get your details, give them a call - I've made full ammendments with Admiral without knowing my policy number when calling - they'll happily find you on name / postcode / secret squirral information.

Cheers Folks..

Went home at lunch time (the crack had double in lengh just from the car being parked up!!) got my documents and called Admiral..

They assured me that it would only cost me £70,

The parts will be Genuine BMW

They will replace it like for like (so head reflective, atuo wiper auto lights top tint etc)

No claims or renewal premium will not be affected.

National windscreens are heading over this afternoon to me work:)

Fingers crossed it'll work ok, fit well with no marks or leaks and everything will work as new...

As the M3 glass is the same as any 3 series hopefully the fitter will have done millions anyway with sales reps etc so will know exactly what to expect etc!

Fail.

The man arrived, realised he had the wrong screen, had to order another one.

D'oh.

No claims or renewal premium will not be affected.

That is quite correct, BUT the claim COULD likely to appear on your insurance renewal and you therefore have to declare it as a claim even though it will make no difference to the renewal cost.

I had to have the rear screen replaced on my RAV4 last year and that claim appeared on my renewal.

Bureaucracy, huh!
