Hi

Speaking of tyre pressure. When we picked up our Avensis TR from the dealer (It was a demo car), we then drove from Surrey to Essex to pick up the aftermarket wheels for it. We've only test driven it on urban roads which we drive mostly on and it was great especially for my wife as the steering was light plus it was auto. On the motorway to Essex the whole car just became fidgety and hard to maintain on the lane. I put it down to me not used to a big car with this type of steering but I was exhausted after. Changed the wheels and drove back and it was perfect so I put it down to experience. 6 months later I swapped the wheels for a long tour on the continent. After fitting it I checked the tyre pressure as its been in the shed for months and it showed 45 all round! I suspect the tyres were losing pressure while on storage so it must have been higher when we drove on it last. Anyway, reduced the tyre pressure to the manual's recommendation and the car drove like the adverts through European motorways and the steering got a touch heavier which I preferred as there's more feel. Question is, did the dealer over inflate the tyres to give a different feel through the test drive as he knew we didn't ask for a motorway run and just forgot to reset it right? Does this happen? Just asking I suppose to have one more thing to watch out for on test drives as it seems unusual that a car from the lot was so over inflated that the handling at speeds was badly affected.

The tyres are ALWAYS over inflated from new, this allows them to stand a while in compunds etc waiting to be sold, sounds like your dealer didnt adjust them before it went out :naughty:

Kingo
