Celica failed its mot today on emissions

Fast Idle Test

CO=0.57 Fail

HC=00017 Pass

Lambda=0.99Pass

Second Fast Idle Test

CO=2.16 Fail

HC=00028 Pass

Lambda=0.94

Normal Idle Test

CO=0.50

its either my cat or my lambda sensers. Can anyone tell from these readings which it could be? As lambda sensors aint cheap and a new cat for my car is uber expensive.

lambda limits are some thing like 0.90 to 1.05 for the mot test . yours passed on both idle tests , hydro carbons are really low also ,so its not unburnt fuel causing the problem. as the cat filters co2 and the car failed on co2 's - but do please buy a new lambda and let us know of the outcome.

what sort of service history has the car had? i'd be very surprised if a car less than 10 years old has a failing CAT.
