Avensis Steering Issues

I have a pre facelift avensis 1.8 vvti. After making a turn the steering wheel does not feedback and return to its original position. I have replaced the steering rack with a reconditioned in an attempt to rectify this but still have the problem.

Does anybody have any further suggestions as to what else could be causing this.

Well buck. I had a similar sounding problem with my 1.6. But my steering used to lock up slightly after making a sharp turn, almost like the power steering went and it wouldn't straighten up. I don't know if this is the same problem you have, but what solved mine was oiling up the cv joint in the steering, the one which is in the engine bay located just below and behind the inlet manifold.

i assume when changing the rack-you had the steering geometry checked , as this is generally in any car that hasn,t had a serious shunt or is a cut and shut, is very bad sign , as you,ve change the rack-this should eliminate any seized parts. unless you,ve got any funny tyres,if you replaced the rack without checking everything was free, bad luck

After the steering rack was replaced the car did have tracking done by the garage. Additionally, since the steering rack has been replaced the TRC Off and VSC lights come on when driving at motorway speeds i do not know if this is related in anyway.

Also, just so you know the avensis is Mark II 2005/6
