Windscreen Wiper And Water Failure

Hi,

If anyone could help it would be great. This morning it was minus 5 degrees when I went out to my car so i scraped the thick ice off the windscreen and then sprayed de-icer on it and turned on the wipers. All was fine to start with, they were operating fine. The rear wiper hasn't worked for months, so i manually moved the wiper back and forth on the back window screen to clear some ice there too.

When I got in the car to set off, I tried to use the wipers on the front windscreen and they wouldn't operate at all. I just put it down to the frozen weather, and wondered if the de-icer had become frozen in the mechanism. So left it, hoping they would work tonight after work when it was a couple of degrees above zero. So this evening after work, I tried them, but nothing, they still wouldn't work. Not even the water pumps works either for the screenwash for the front or the back windows. I can't hear it trying to pump the screenwash through either when clicking the switch for it. So I'm out on both front and back windscreen wipers and neither of the water pumps for screenwash front or back will work.

Does anyne have any ideas about what this could be, and how to put it right? All of these functions are on the right hand switch on the side of the steering column, the one opposite to the indicators switch the other side of the steering column? Could the problem be a fuse? If so, where is the fuse box?

I have a UK, Toyota Avensis, Vermont, 5 door, VVTI, X reg, year 2000.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

Mrdoody.

To Mrdoody,

Check your fuses behind glovebox. Blue & White sticker gives front & rear wiper fuse rating with position. You may have operated wipers with them frozen to screen, perhaps blowing your fuses?

That would also be my first guess.
