Help - I'm new to this so not sure where to start.

I've bought a Toyota OE single CD player on eBay which fits an old model 55 Yaris, I'm told i need a Y adaptor to keep both CD and the original radio cassette and to use the display on the dash.

The local delaer says they were packed with the CD player and not listed as a sperate part, any ideas how i can get around this?

.......and I was just about to try and reply.......:D....well we do have a Yaris in the household as well :D.

Depends on the connectors, you have on the two units. There's two sorts. what gets refered to the old 5+7 pin and the new 6+6 pin. The old connector is bigger. This is a Y that has all old connectors I believe:

I'm trying to source one of these to get an Xcarlink module to work in my Yaris too; I've been trying to figure out why all the center dash controls stop working when it's plugged in, and it turns out the two wires in the existing connector that run into the CD changer port are part of some data bus, so I need this Y-connector to bridge to two connectors!

I'm tempted to jam a pair of straightened paperclips in or something, except this will probably do bad things if I hit a particularly large bump in the road :unsure:

After poking Xcarlink, it turns out they *do* sell them, and for a tenner!

It's not listed on their website 'tho, you have to ask them via the support form for some reason.

After being told by Toyota that it only comes with the CD Changer, I got the part number from another forum (08695-00260) and tried that, and it turns out they will sell it, but they want £25.71 for it!

Great news thanks, I've e-mail the Xcar support guys to get a part no. - good luck with your installation

I finally got the stupid Y-cable for the CD Changer port! \o/

The bad news: Just hooked the XCarLink up, and yup, it doesn't work :(

The AUX connector works, and I can plug my PDA into it to play music, but the USB and SD card slots do not.

The rest of the car works; Can still use the radio etc., so it seems the Y-cable is deffo the right thing.

I'm not sure whether the problem is with the SD card or the actualy unit at this point as it seems the SD card isn't even recognised (It's a 16GB one I got from Play.com).

The worrying thing is that when I power up the car, the built-in CD player makes a noise like it's trying to eject the CD, then displays ERR3 for a few seconds. If I switch modes to it or it's already set to CD mode the display just alternates between displaying "5-2", "8-88" and "8-99"

Has anyone got any ideas?

I've e-mailed the company, but as it's a weekend I doubt I'll get any reply for a few days at the earliest...

I hope it's not damaged because they might not take it back now... (I had to use a pair of pliers to get the plug out of the head unit from my original attempts, and the plastic is not a pretty sight...! )

Woo! Got it working!! :yahoo:

It turns out that contrary to the manual, the SD slot doesn't support SDHC memory cards, only SD which basically means anything up to 2GB (You can get 4GB ones, but they're pretty rare. Almost all 4GB cards are SDHC).

Also, the USB port seems to have trouble with certain sorts of USB convertor, but when I cleared out a normal USB key and put some music on that it worked fine.

Hmm... I wonder if the USB port will work with a 500GB hard disk...

So, if anybody else decides to get one of these things:

1) Check your radio! If you only have one 5+7 or 6+6 port and it is occupied with a 2-wire connector already, you need the Y-cable mentioned above!

(The 5+7 one is Toyota part# 08695-00260 or PIE part#: TOY-F/MM. Can be had for a tenner from the XCarLink folks if you ask, or £25 from Mr T...)

2) The card slot only takes SD cards, so you're limited to 2GB

3) The USB port can be picky in what it takes; Try a normal USB key if something more exotic doesn't work...

4) If you have thin arms, you don't need to take the dash out on older Yaris' to fit this, but if you have no idea what you're doing, taking it apart is less risky (And fun! Also, you look less stupid than lying upside down in the passanger seat  )
