Remote Central Locking Being Tempremental...

Hi guys,

i'm sure if you've read my other posts in Jemmo's thread, then you'll know what problems i'm having but for everyone else, here's a run down of my problem:

Interior light (central) isn't working manually or automatically. Central locking is playing up. Dome fuse is fine.

These are the results i get with each locking element:

Fob: Unlock cycle only

Door lock: Unlock cycle only

Interior locking button: Lock and Unlock cycle

i'm thinking that somehow the problem is beyond the interior locking button, hence it's the only locking element that's actually working. Not knowing how the central locking system works in a 98 avensis, i can't tell for sure. But i'm pretty certain that the receiver would somehow be connected to the interior locking button in the drivers door, which controls the whole system. forgive me if i'm wrong, but it seems the only logical explanation.

Anyone have any ideas of what might be the problem? loose wires? gremlins? etc.

I'm sure there are so many people out there who have had this problem and resolved it... anyone care to give us a little insight into what's wrong?

i've exhausted all other sources, and google has drawn a blank on me.

Just tried to replace the interior light bulb- ended up with fault with the central locking!

Looks like I blew the dome fuse! Replaced fuse and followed a central locking re-set - and now all fine!

Many thanks to this excellent site! :) :D

Not a penny spent!

Hi all, firstly may I just say this is a great site. I have been a member for 4 years or so now.

I have had a similar problem with my central locking as well. I have a 2002 d4-d CDX and after replacing the interior light bulb the central locking doesn't work.

I can't lock the car using the remote key fob or by locking the the drivers door. Locking the drivers door only locks this door and not the others. The only way to lock the other doors is to use the door lock switch on the drivers door. So to lock all the doors I have to sit in the drivers seat with the door closed and lock the doors using the switch on the drivers door. I then unlock the door manually, get out and lock the door using the key!!!!!!

At the same time this fault occured several other electris in the car also stopped working. These are:

Front interior light.

Door open indicator on dash

Sat Nav/Stereo/trip computer

Rev counter stays in last position when car turned off (eg stays at 800 revs)

Trip counter resets back to zero after each car journey and goes back to total mileage.

After reading several posts I tried disconnecting certain cables in the drivers door as posted by Rvall but with no luck.

Lots of people have mentioned the dome fuse but I can't find this. Is this located in the engine bay or in the dash?

Has anyone else got any other suggestions other than take it to Mr T or an auto electrician?

Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

Thanks

Kam

DONIE,

6 years later I had the issue and have fixed my remote. Thank you if are still on the forum.

http://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/166489-avensis-1998-unlock-remote-key-fix-taken-from-forum/?p=1377120

This fix works if the key locks, but does not unlock the doors.

The fault is likely to happen when the batteries have been changed. I think the remote was loosing full sync.

I modified DONIE's actual wording and broke it down to step by step paragraphs. It is very straight forward so long as the fault is as described.

Thanks again.

Konrad

Probably not relvant but when my central locking was playing up it was the rubber pad in the key that had the small bosses that actually bear on the microswitches worn so that they were not actuating the switches. A new Battery and rubber pad costing all of £4 fixed the problem . There was nothing visual to tell that the fob was not working but the actuating light was not flashing as it should so perhaps I should have realised the problem.
