Why Is There No Fixed Price In Toyota Dealers?

Hi, was wondering why there is no fixed price for aftersales items like carkits, DAB etc??

its just that I have phoned 3 dealers and started at £350 and then went down to £290 after 3 phone calls??!!

Makes me wonder what profit margin is placed on top at the start!!!! and with the loyalty 10 - 15% discount for us at the toyota club!!:unsure:

After the 3 calls I have decided to phone 3rd party companies that do the same things.... wonder what price they will give me???

I know companies need to make a profit but when the price just drops from a few phone calls by £60, makes me think how much???

Just to mention its the same with services too......... one customer told me that he heard the price of a service for his vehicle and mentioned that he was going elsewhere, suddenly the price dropped £100!!!!!

Anyone has had this thought or similar experience let me know..

Or if anyone knows the ACTUAL prices for certain aftermarket items even better!!!! :D

Doesn't surprise me, i've read of people being charged £200 for a minor service on Yaris/Corolla on here yet it cost me 'only' £130 at my local Toyota Dealer for my Camry. Still it's always worth haggling, there's plenty of fat to trim off the first price they come out with for nearly everything.

Well there is a menu pricing. All dealers using Toyota DMS software are able to menu price most popular jobs like servicing, brakes, clutches etc. The reason you have been discounted is that many dealers are willing to give you a discount off their normal "menu" price to get your business, it is called a free market. I think you might be upset if all pricing was fixed and not negotiable. As with all products there is a profit margin, some products have better margins than others, but I can assure you that the margin on Toyota parts (and cars for that matter) is quite small compared to a lot of business's. By all means compare Toyota dealers for price, but dont then phone the third party companies, you are not comparing like for like. If you are suddenly offered a price £100 lower than the next dealer, then take it and dont worry about how much profit the dealer is making. I don't actually believe anybody would be able to drop £100 off a service, even a big service, which have labour times under two hours

Kingo
