Multimode Gearbox

Hi everyone, I am new to this, never been in a forum before, hopefully somebody can help me!

I collected my 03 Yaris 1.0 Multimode yesterday. On the whole i'm really pleased with it - but i'm a bit concered about my gearbox! when pulling away on a hill I never realised i'd need the handbrake this came as a bit of a shock, especially to the van behind me! When I was sitting in slow moving traffic this morning in "E" it started to beep even when I eventuallly got to pull away it carried on for a few minutes. Is this normal, and why was it doing it? Was it telling me to put it into Neutral? Or is it faulty?! Please help me, I do hope i've not bought a dud! Thank you

The gearbox is not automatic, so you will need to apply the handbrake on a hill

I'm not sure what your beeping was, any lights come on the dash with this beep?

I suspect that low Battery voltage as would occur at the present season ie sitting in slow traffic on a cold morning with lights and heater on can cause beeping plus a flashing E. In such conditions there isn't enough voltage to work the gearbox actuators properly. Mine has been similar recently, I put it down to not doing many miles but a recent long run seems to have charged the Battery and the problem has gone.

I have recently got a 55plate 1.0ltr MM Yaris

with a MM gear box

the gearbox and clutch are electronically controlled

the clutch works a bit like an old lawnmower,in traffic keep your foot on the brake,this disengages it

as such,it doesnt have creep,lot an old fashioned auto.

the gear box calculates the ratios as required,and can be confused!!

so,in traffic put in neutral!!other wise when stationary,hold it on the brake,this will de-activatiethe clutch.

the beeps are a warning the clutch is heating up!!!

I have used auto boxes for ages

despite what the manufactorers say

cahnge the oil very,very frequently

at least every couple of years.my Corolla box is as sweet as a nut,after 123K miles

and lots of lio changes

John,

The "box" in the MMT is a standard Yaris gearbox.

The "MMT" function is an electronically controlled clutch/ changing mechanism which provides the "auto" facility.

Oil changes on the gearbox are carried out exactly the same as any standard Yaris gearbox.
