Normally the discs start to get a lip around the edge of it. Most of the time you can skim this lip off so the disc becomes flush with the main metal part. Discs can take a lot of miles. My old Corolla had done about 120,000miles and i was still using the same discs i had when i bought the car and had no problums with them. My 2005 Avenesis which i have now has done neally 68,000miles and i can feel a very small lip on it but i havent got any problems with them and they stop the car fine.
