Key For An Avensis 02 Plate

Having lost my keys recently I'm down to 2 keys - One black with the two C/L buttons and one grey.

I want to get a new black key (Master ?), but I've heard that these can be really expensive to obtain from the dealer and instead i could get one cut and then program the transponder myself.

I've had a look around the forums and the web and now I'm really confused! There appears to be a number of different methods of prommaing a new key for the Avensis. I've an 02 Plate Avensis 1.8 Estate. Can some advise on the correct method.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly, can you get hold of a blank transponder key to cut? Secondly, I believe that the key has to be programmed for the central locking and also the chip needs coding for the immobiliser.

I am not sure that you can code the chip yourself but may need the Toyota (or specialist locksmith company) equipment to do this.

Personally, I would just bite the bullet and go to Mr T. unless you can find a specialist that's cheaper. I know they are out there as a friend had to have the whole lot replaced, both keys and ECU (on his wifes Yaris after she lost the last key) , which was an arm and a leg from Mr T. He saved quite a bit of money by using a specialist lockmith, I will try remember to find out who he used for you if he is at work 2moro (he was off sick today) and will post 2moro night.

As promised, the people he used were Lockright Locksmiths (07590682239) but they are in Manchester if that's any good to you. With my friends car, the locksmith came out (about 70 miles) , unlocked the car, recoded the ecu and supplied 2 new keys.
