Ambient Air Temperature Optimistic

Hello all!

I have a 2001 Yaris and as said in the title, the ambient air temperature reading is decidedly optimistic. The readout during the week was about 4c outside while the snow was falling and during the freeze afterwards it read as 3.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks,

Gareth

Hi

The sender for your temp gauge is mounted on a verticle piece of metal directly below the bonnet catch that is visable when you open the bonnet, it has a plastic clip holding it on, it sits just in front of the radiator and can pick up extra heat from that if you are stationary for any length of time. It could also be that yours has fallen off and is resting against the radiator, it's a little black box about 2cm cubed with a rounded bit sticking out of it that is the sensor, it will have an electrical plug and wires to it, they are on the same loom as the horn... have a look you never know........

Good Luck

Pete

It's the same on ours, it does fluctuate and I do feel it is slightly 'out' at times so I take the reading with a pinch of salt..

Thanks for the info people.

As I was driving home through the snow tonight, it registered a toasty 6c! B)

I'll take a peek in the morning at it.
