Just had a quote off Toyota for an extended warranty for my 3 yr old rav 2.2 its done 36,000mls the quote was £720 pr year.Has anybody taken up this offer? What do you think. We have never had a problem with this car. In fact we have never had a problem with any of our Toyota's ( and we have had a few!!). My wife says it doesn't cost that much to insure the house, contents ,pipes and central heating all together and it costs far more than a Rav!!! (but thats a womans logic for you)

I think you'll find its the risk of hinge failure increases the price

Hinges in the home are not subjected to salt/grit.

£720 per yesr sounds very high to me.

IIRC, mine was about £500 for two years unlimited miles or about £450 for 10,000 miles a year - this was for a 2005 RAV4 petrol.

Hi Mate + welcome, The Toyota std warrantee is for 3yrs/ 60000mls whichever comes first, So you can guess that MrT are confident nothing major will go wrong before then, as your car is averaging 12000 mls a year you will still only be on 60000 in 2yrs time, Personally I wouldn't bother certainly not for£1440 you can buy a decent rav for that these days

Sounds very expensive to me. Have you thought about getting an online quote for an independent used car warranty. I believe I paid £500 for a three year warranty on a five year old 5 series BMW touring that had done 67,000 miles when I bought it. I was then covering 20,000 miles/yr then.

It covered all major bits and pieces. Obviously you would need to read the small print very carefully but I had no problems with the two claims I made [pneumatic suspension unit and alternator].

This one is £199/yr max £3000/claim

Chances are you will not use it if you buy it, but you are getting peace of mind and in many ways capping how much you will pay to run your RAV.

I bought extended warranty for my RAV partly because I decided NOT to on my previous Honda HR-V (and I regard Honda and Toyota as equally excellent in quality) and ended up with repair costs more then the warranty would have been - so kind of one bitten, twice shy, I guess.

Also worth mentioning that the toyota warranty includes a very comprehensive RAC package and you do get £50 back if you don't make a claim (if you renew again), so that is like a £150 value or so over the two years.

some dealers tend to lie about the cost of an extended warranty, as i found out negotiating a deal on the rav.

infact some swore blind that extended warranty would cost £700 per year.

A phone call to toyota customer services soon sorted that.
