Hid Convertion Kit

Hi All,

I've tried searching for some advice in HID and not had much luck.

I've recently been bought a set of 'H7 HIDS4U ProPlus xenon Conversion E4 Certified Ballasts' for my birthday present.

Normally I would do my own research before buying something like this but as they are a gift I didn't get the chance

Can anyone tell me if these are good and could they have any negative affects on my car or MOT?

Well according to the website link you posted they're E4 certified, so should be fine.

There are quite a few regulations regarding factory fit HID lighting such as automatic levelling and headlamp wash etc. But aftermarket stuff is a grey area at the moment. It doesn't mention the colour temperature of the lights on that site, but they must be fine as they're supposedly E rated. The colour temp will be a number with a K on the end, such as 4500K.

They won't do your car any harm though, in fact they use less power being only 35W instead of a standard filament lamps 55W.

Good luck fitting them in, have you seen the space in there? :D

That's a relief! I worried about failing my MOT which due in a couple on months

A word of warning though.

An MOT tester reserves the right to fail you if they consider your lights to be too blue. 6000K is a little cold in colour so it's going to depend on who tests you. Standard HID's have a warmer colour temperature than that, normally around the 4000k mark. But you can get blue tint bulbs anyway which are E marked, and 6000k isn't over the top so you may be ok.

I've got 6000k fitted and passed my MOT last week. Only thing they pulled me for was the alignment which they adjusted no problems.

Fitting was easier than I thought it would be too. The hardest part was removing the lights but once figured out did the other in about 20 mins.

Go for it mate, you'll love them. Best mod ive done.

There is a difference here between LEGAL and MOT PASS.

ALL HID conversion kits are ILLEGAL. Full stop.

For a car with HIDs fitted, it requires by law to have automatic headlight levelling, and headlight washers.

Conversion kits will obviously fall short of these 2 requirements, especially the auto-levelling.

HOWEVER

If you put in a HID kit it will pass an MOT so long as:

1. The colour is yellow/white, or even a slight blue tinge. 6000K is about the limit. I have 4300K in mine, and they may not look quite as good, but the visibility is much better compared to 6000K

2. The light level/beam pattern is within accepted limits.

So the long and short is, you should pass an MOT, but could still be pulled over by plod. As long as the colour does not attract unwanted attention then you should be ok.

Well I had a quick look at trying to fit them over the weekend, and decided that's when i saw how much space there isn't for thwe ballasts.

Where would be there best place to mount/stick them and where about's have put yours Alex De Large

Take out the headlight units altogether (this also makes it much easier to swap the bulbs)

There is enough of space underneath to store the ballasts, and they are tucked away neatly out of sight.

The drivers side has a nice flat surface on top of the windscreen washer reservoir to plonk it on top of.

The passenger one fits nicely underneath the unit too, but space is much tighter this side.

Hi,

Yeh, there is very little room for the ballasts, on the right side, I used the adhesive pads to fix it to the side of the fuse box ( I think off the top of my head) and on the left hand side, about 11 inches up from the headlight there is a space perfect for a ballast, just screwed it into an exisiting screw hole against a back flat surface.

Hi, im on the look out for a HID kit, was wondering whether the kits designed for a reflector type headlight would fit the projector headlight the Gen 7 Celica has? Being searching for ages for the answer to that, but the only response i got was the fact it would cause glare IF it did :huh: ? Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance

Sorry to revive an old thread - but this is exactly the post I have been looking for!

Thanks to everyone who has provided their comments, especially with regards to the legalities of aftermarket HIDs - this has been very informative.

I'm looking to buy the aforementioned kit from HIDS4U with the 4500K bulbs (I prefer the pure white light rather than a blue/violet - also don't want to attract too much attention) - I have a question, from my understanding, the Celica has free-form projectors? Does this mean we should use the bulbs designated with a R instead of an S?

Also - how have the kits held up after all these years? Any feedback would be great - I'm sick of driving on A roads with pretty poor visibility and I just think the Celica would look gorgeous with two pure white beams.
