Intermittent Loss Of Power 2.0 D4d

Hi, im having an intermittent problem with my 04 2.0 D4D where loss of power is experienced because the engine will only do 2,000 revs approximately (limp home mode). when this happens there is a strong smell of unburnt diesel and a clattery noise from the engine(sometimes a pinking noise). light grey billowing smoke pours out. when these episodes are not occurring the car drives normally with good power, but the engine management light is constantly on. these episodes have been increasing in frequency. The airflow meter was changed as it was thought to be faulty, but that has made no difference.

reading through the forum here i have noticed other people seem to also have had loss of power problems. has anyone has similar symptoms and found a cure? Aidy mentioned the egr valve, has fixing this helped anyone else?

many thanks,

lloyd

ok, a mechanic has diagnosed the EGR valve as not working properly, so it needs cleaned or replaced. problem is that he doesnt know where the EGR vale is situated in the 2.0 D4D. can anyone help with a diagram or description?

also i found this extract below on the web, does anyone think it would be effective?

From what I can remember the d4d engine has a small egr valve fitted to the inlet throttle body.

My advice would be to do the following:-

I remove the air filter inlet pipes to the throttle body, with the engine running spray carb cleaner direct into the throttle body. Then spray all the linkages with carb cleaner, remove the vacuum pipes, crank ventilation pipes etc, then blow them through with the carb cleaner.

Many thanks,

Lloyd

OK, cleaning the EGR valve has fixed the problem. the turbo also needed some parts as it was damaged due to the malfunctioning EGR valve. The car is now going well.

thanks for your help,

Lloyd

hello

naturally this EGR valve criates addtional exhaust reducing due to its flow cleanness and the attention has to be paid on the burning process quality.

because the EGR is the result and not consequence.

have a good drive !!! :)

hi

to be 1000000% sure -- it is required to pay attention of injection quality + timing belt (!)

juat have yr engine electronically checked pereodically and you'll sleep easily :)

i meant that the engine was operating at a temperature of 78 degrees C

does the brand of fuel make any difference to protecting the EGR valve?
