Bottom Arm Bush Change

Hi, the rear bottom arm suspension bush is nackered on the front LHS of my 1.6 2000 avensis, just wondering if it's possible to change the bush (as you can buy them) or should I be looking at changing the whole arm? On previous cars the bushed haven't been available seperately so have always changed whole arms, but just checking on this.

Thanks for any help!

Chris

Not done one of these but generally these type of bushes can be a tight fit in the arms. If you have access to a press or a decent workshop, then yes, go ahead. If not, play it safe and go with a new arm.

Hi Chris, just a word of warning, if your car is an auto, the nearside centre bolt will not clear the auto box. This is not a problem on a manual box. To remove the bolt on an auto requires lowering of the sub frame not an easy job. Have not tried, but you may be able to lift the box enough to clear using a jack.

Hope this helps. :(

TBH i have found that a replacement arm from the motor factors can be had for about £45, the bush alone is about £25. with the new arm you also get a new front bush and bottom ball joint. makes the job a lot easier
