Insuance

Why is it over the last few months so many insurance companies have changed their underwritters who dictate young people shouldn't have sporty cars 'so to speak'

I was looking at quotes for a CTSC (Corolla Compressor) and the cheapest quote i got back was £2.5  I mean honestly who in their right mind would pay that much for insurance, I have called up insurance companies about it and alot of them (Churchill, RAC, Direct Line, Endsligh) have all said their policies have changed in the last few months and don't insure many people under 25...

... ok thats fair enough in itself but when my mate get insured with RAC on his Civic Type R and he aint been driving as long as me and has points on his license i get rather upset when they turn round to me and say im uninsurable!!!

Sorry for the rant I'm just not a happy chappy and had to let it out some how :ffs: :ffs: :ffs: :ffs:

Statistically young people = accidents and fast cars = accidents, so young people + fast cars = potentially lots of accidents!

Young men + fast cars =......

Who's to blame though - the insurance companies or the young men giving the rest of you a bad name?

It was , & is, my opinion that there was little or no competition between the Insurance companies here, in Ireland. I used see the Adverts on tele & the comparison sites & envy you.

It seems that it is all the same. If you are under 25 here it will cost you nearly the price of the car to insure it :(

True but for the sake of a few idiots (who dont always have to be young men) why should it be made across the line to make out young drivers are high risk to insure, I mean ive done over 60k worth of driving in 3 years! I'm old enough to drive my Captains land rover at work! and im going to do an LGV and HGV license later in the year... its just not fair :(

Because how can you tell if Johnny, age 17, who drives a Honda Civic Type R is going to be a safe driver over Timmy, age 18 with a Focus ST?

The fact is, you can't. The only way you can do it is by insuring a smaller car, (ie an Aygo) which is of lower risk to the insurers and therefore your premium will be lower.

It's harsh and believe me, women suffer too, I paid over £800 to insure my first car, an 800cc Matiz when I was 21! Unfortunately it's the law to have insurance so you either have to pay it or make yourself a lower risk to the insurers by changing your car....

Aah... the benefits of being a bit older... you may mock me Miles but i could insure 4 TT Supra's for £2.5k with change!

Have you tried ringing some specialist brokers, Adrian Flux etc that deal with young kids who want fast cars?? :P

My first insurance premium was £1200 on a 1.0 Yaris at 18!!

Surely the point here is that under 25s should not be driving??

And then going from that, why does a Driving School advertise lessons for anyone aged 12 or above??? So that when they nick a car, they'll get further away????

Bring back compulsory poverty for youth! (jist joking)

Same goes for people over the age of 75 - difficult to get insured. I'd to insure my 90 year old father on my policy - crazy! Mind you, he's not covered for hill-climbing, sprints, or drifting

The Escort was a Cosworth Grp 20, probably not a surprising price for a celeb living in London at the height of joy riding!

Your other option then is to put a CTS engine in and put your diseasel engine cover on it.... your insurance co would never know....

funnily enough thats not as daft as it sounds.

I had a 3SGTE fitted to the RAVs and the insurance companies had problems understanding what was so different as both the original and the new engine were 1998cc The current insurer noted the difference but didn't alter the premium.

So depending on how convincing you can be you could even wangle a reduction as you would be decreasing the engine size.....

Just don't mention the increase in power! :P

As long as you just want a piece of paper that says your insured for acquiring a tax disc because you sure as hell wouldn't be legally insured ;)
