Hi,

If there is a disc in it, then yes you do. If there is no disc in it, then no, you don't & you will need to purchase a disc. But unless the disc is current, your sat nav will be 4 years out of date in terms of road changes, one way systems, roundabouts etc as it is a 2005 car. So I would use an independent Tomtom or other system, as the discs are expensive for Avensis at over £120 each update.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Marama

Have you actually tried turning the satnav on or ejecting the disc? It may have a disc in there already.

To geska2009,

You should have a sliding catch on your sat/nav, once this is moved if you have disc in unit it will automatically emerge. Use the following link to verify disc required www.toyota-mapupdates.eu. But as suggested by other postings your sat/nav is an early version & the discs are a complete rip-off. Treat yourself to something nice from one of the major car component factors instead as suggested by other postings.

Regards, Beagh.

To geska2009,

I cannot advise you as to eBay. But what i would say is phone or take your vehicle to your nearest Toyota franchise & let them run a check. At least with Toyota you know you will be buying the real item, or you can say no if disc is to pricey. If buying of eBay make sure it's the real thing & ask seller how he know's this, if no return answer, don't buy.

Regards, Beagh.

As thatch suggests discs are a bit hit & miss for use in Ireland only showing main roads in my case ( N-Roads ) yet disc checker suggests they cover much more, you should not have this problem living in the UK? When turning ignition to first position (without starting car) you may hear noise from Sat/Nav as if unit is doing a search. No lights, your split screen in dash will confirm if you have disc, if you have not then no info will show.

To geska2009,

Have double checked the way my sytem works (same as yours) and with ignition key in 1st position with dash facia lighting up you should hear a noise the same as a computer hard drive doing a search & Toyota Navigation System should come up on your split screen. To remove your disc, key again must be in 1st position as above & when you slide Grey? slider across disc automatically comes out. I can find no seperate fuse for sat/nav, but it works through audio system when using voice control for guidance so it must share same circuits as radio at some point. Fuse for radio is behind glove/box, but if your radio system works i think your option know is to return vehicle to Toyota & have them check for a 12 volt feed to sat/nav unit. It is possible that you have a faulty unit ie: no power feed or jammed disc.

If you've just recently bought the car, isn't it under warranty? If it is, just let them sort it out for you. I presume that now the disc is out it is the correct disc in there? It should just feed back into the satnav unit in the same way as any cd/dvd player.

I will have to check if my warranty covers the sat nav. But the disc just won't go back in again thanks for support.

If it's Toyota used car warranty the only exceptions are Battery, Exhaust, wheels and tyres. Otherwise it's the same as for a new car (unless it's changed since I bought mine)
