2004 Vvti Clutch (pedal?) Squeak

Hi,

I have a niggly clutch related noise which I would like opinions on please.

The noise is best described as a heavy squeak. It appears when the clutch pedal is pressed. It appeats to be coming from the clutch pedal area, however, I have sprayed all sorts of lubricant in this area without lessening the noise.

The noise normally disappears if the outisde temperature goes over 15c. The noise is at its worst when the atmosphere is damp.

I recently had the clutch replaced at a Toyota dealer as there was clutch judder (and according to the dealer the clutch was starting to slip. At the time the dealer stated the noise was most likely to be the slave cylinder. They were going to dismantle this and clean it internally (half an hour's labour). However, for some reason this was not done. I am now taking the car back for this work, however, I still have some doubt if this is the cause of the noise, and with the temperature rising the noise might not be there for the dealer to hear.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

IF the noise is coming from the pedal I presume you have spray lubricated the shaft, bushes and clevis pin but have you also sprayed the ends of the return spring? I have found on many vehicles that the squeak comes from the spring ends where they contact the pedal and pedal box, as the pedal moves the spring ends rotate metal to metal on their anchor points. Worth a try if you didn't target them with your spray.

Other areas are the clutch lever pivot point (inside the bell housing) which should have been lubricated when the new clutch was fitted and the slave cylinder pushrod end, where it pushes on the clutch lever.

On my 2002 Avensis I put some bicycle grease on the slave cylinder (to the ball-joint which connects the slave cylinder to the clutch "lever"). The noise went away but now where I live the temperature rarely dips below 5oC.

I had a similar problem with my 2005 vvti T Spirit and was told by my local dealer that is was a noisy master cylinder. They tried to clean it up a little but was still making the noise. It may continue on making the noise without failing for some time so may just end up being an annoyance. As mine has 142k on the clock and no record of a clutch being replaced, I may see how it goes and go for a new clutch in the near future.
